Quote:You've heard the fable of the scorpion who stings the back of the turtle who's carrying him across a deep river? As both animals are drowning, the turtle asks the scorpion why, and it says "It's my nature."

Quote:I had a friend put it that it was like he was fighting his nature. You've heard the fable of the scorpion who stings the back of the turtle who's carrying him across a deep river? As both animals are drowning, the turtle asks the scorpion why, and it says "It's my nature." Ares' nature is War, and I did feel something for him as he fought against it. I don't think he meant to fall in love.

Quote:After the "turning point" where Ares became mortal, Xena seemed to know him better, and like him more. What changed, imo, was that they became more friends than they were rivals. I find it interesting, because although I see them growing closer in later Seasons, the level of attraction seems to me to stay pretty constant. So I wouldn't say IMO Xena fell in love with Ares at any point, or grew to love him more, but that they grew to know each other better, and found there was more to each other than just the God of War and Warrior Princess personas. I don't think Xena didn't let herself love Ares just because she knew "he was bad for her". I think it was more that she felt a different kind of love or attraction to him, that wasn't about getting involved in a relationship.

Quote:Okay enough on that bit lol, The coming home stuff, well I believe like someone else said that Xena was saddened because she finally realised how much Ares loved her and she couldnt return that love, Im not saying its because she was in love with Gabrielle(although i do harbor that opinion) lol, it was simply that she knew that she could never return his feelings.
