Gabrielles induction into the Amazon Nation as a unofficial but honorary Amazon and later Amazon Queen began when she instinctively put her life at risk attempting to shield Amazon Princess Terries from a volley of Centaur arrows. In the episode, despite her efforts Terries dies with a last request that Gabrielles bravery be rewarded by taking her place within the Amazon tribe, and with Xena as her warrior champion Gabrielle and the Amazons survived what could have been a costly war.
