It's Joss Whedon talking about Buffy, but it's thematically the same as Rob T's interview with Whoosh, talking about how basically an artist can't please everyone everytime, and really shouldn't try to.
Quote:
Q: Did you find Buffy fans and critics more harsh on season six or season seven?
A: You know, people always hate the current season for one reason or another. But at the end of the day, season six took a lot of hits. I think season seven probably came out a little ahead. I think season four took a lot of hits which is one of my favorites. Inevitably, everybody has a favorite. People who are really depressing like season six as much as I did.
Q: Do you have any regrets about the series?
A: No. Some things worked better than other things. We were able to do the show the way we wanted to. We were never dictated to. I looked at some things and said, Okay, that worked better than this. This episode didnt give people the impression that I wanted to as much. This wasnt as funny or tight as it could have been. You always have that. I hated that collar. I mean, you obsess about every little thing. But we always did what we wanted to and what we were told to by the story. Essentially, if youre making art, it starts telling you what to do and it really did. It wasnt like I was like Gee, what would be cool? It was more like I would watch something and then realize I know whats going to happen next because its happened.
Q: Do you worry about the plot developments that have pissed some fans off?
A: I never go out intending to piss people off because an artist is trying to communicate with people. You want to shock them every now and then to make sure theyre awake. Otherwise youre making hack TV. But inevitably, if you do something that inflames passion, youre going to piss people off. You dont set out to do it, but if you never do it, then theyre not listening.

Did he stare into the camera and yell, "SUCKERS!" Or, or... what?
