Who or what do YOU fear the most, and why? I'm afraid of dentists becuz it damn hurts when he's ripping your teeth outta your mouth... Awie And he's ripped me out 10 teeth so far ... And you?

This is probably putting it out there a bit, but my worst fear is ridicule. To be with a large group of people, and doing/saying something silly, and having people laugh at me. But I have a HUGE phobia of them. I think Zombie Walks are just obscenely wrong. My girlfriend and I were joking about this the other day and she came out of the bathroom at me while I was walking down the hall. Arms outstretched and making the moaning sound. I hit her in the solar plexus without even thinking. She totally admits she deserved it though. And we both agreed that I should adjust my instinct to be a bit higher (ie head) since a hit to the stomach wouldn't hurt a zombie. I don't think she'll do that again though since next time, I'll be aiming for the face. And we also both agreed that we will not limit the supplies of our emergency kit to natural disasters but also things for Zombie attacks. Which pretty much amounts to The Manual. Just to make me feel better in the completely-irrational-zombie-fearing corner of my brain. I completely understand they are not real and there's no true threat there but . . .yeah, fear is irrational. Wow . . . I think that revealed far more of my daily allotment of cockoo than I usually share. Hope it amused you all though. Thanks to Pandora10 for the Sig and to LK for Helping Me Set It Up.

So much so that I refuse to see them anymore. I drive and hour and a half out of my way to see a female one. One thing that gives me that deep-down-very instinctive kind of "fright or flight" response is the Praying Mantis insect. Being an ex-biologist, that's not very professional, but I have never been able to shake it. I also have a pathological fear of heights with anything beyond, say, 5 or 6 steps up a ladder. It doesn't even have to be me in peril; I cried my eyes out just watching hubby roofing the house. "You're always hoping for Greek fire" - Xena

I become that shrieking, totally useless woman I hate in horror movies. Rhonda still gives me a hard time about the first time she saw me totally freak out. I came running up the yard screaming at the top of my lungs. Luckily she has seen me in far more embarrassing situations, . My other big fear is killer bees. Every since I was a little kid, I've been terrified of killer bees. One time when I was still a paramedic, we had a call where a swarm had attacked a man and his two little grandkids. My partner was deathly allergic to bees so that left me alone to run through the swarm and into the house where my patients had taken refuge. I only had a couple of stings. The man and his grandkids had hundreds each. The little kids almost died. I still get shivers thinking of hundreds of bees beating against the windows trying to get in. It was bizarre. My mom has always been afraid of bridges mainly because many go over water and she can't swim. One of my fears is dogs...mainly big dogs that are hyper or agressive. I hate when friends or other people say their dogs don't bite and then the dog tries to jump on you and their teeth do actually grab at you! Sure, they may be playing but is scares the Tartarus out of me! This fear comes from I guess some bad experiences when I was a little kid. I remember when as a kid around 5 or 6 years old, our neighborhood would throw "block" parties and one woman would bring her huge white Siberian Husky. I was running from this stupid dog and the owner would just laugh and say, "Stop running and it will stop chasing you." At the time all I could think to myself was "You have got to be kidding! It's going to rip me to pieces if I stop!" To me, the safest place was in one of my parent's arms and I would always beg them to just pick me up. So if a little kid wants you to pick them up just do it lmao!! Other than that I like dogs that are calm and don't mess with you... I also don't like going on roller coasters or any kind of carnival ride. I used to like it a bit when I was younger like the swinging boat ride I went on like 8 times in a row. Also I did like the Tower of Terror and Rockin' Roller Coaster at Disney World. I would probably go on those again but I just don't like going on rides. I hate the feeling you get when being on them. When you first get on it, it seems like a good idead and right as it's about to start you are thinking to yourself, "Ok this was a bad idea." Then the ride starts and i'm wishing it would stop! After it's over people go wasn't that fun?! And i'm just like "NO! It wasn't fun!"

And clowns i don't like clowns at all. I think they are just wrong. I mean its all fake anyways clowns aren't supposed to be happy they are sad, or mad. Yah odd..The fact that your heart stops when it happens just makes me wanna go running. I'm always afraid I'm going to have a heart palpitation( because I have a hole in my heart I get them a lot) when I sneeze and they're going to counteract and my heart will stop. 2. I'm also afraid of being alone in big open spaces because I feel dizzy for some reason. 3.I'm also afraid of being alone.. Not in the sense of not having a significate other but like being home alone and my husbands at the store or when he works night shift and I have to sleep at the house alone.. I'm always afraid something will happen and I can't get to the phone. 4. Lastly I panic with sirens, specifically ambulance sirens because I was once taken away in one and for some reason when I hear them I think about that time and I get panicked.. If you can't tell I have anxiety/panic disorder.. So living scares me lol

Two Star General Posts: 2812 (08/06/07 2:20 PM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	I have the usual rational fears, the things that you fear because they really are terrible, death, losing people, being alone, being ashamed in some way etc. But my more obscure/irrational phobias are whales and gorillas. I don't think I've ever actually seen a whale, except on tv, but I think they're creepy. They're too big, but under the sea, where you can't see them. So if you were on a boat they could be right there and you'd never know. And their eyes are too small, so you wouldn't know if it was looking at you. (I think this began when I had a children's picture book with a picture of a whale that I didn't like, and also I find the sea intimidating aswell). Gorillas have expressions that are just too similar to humans. When I was little, the zoo we used to go to kept gorillas in big glass-fronted enclosures, where you could go right up to the glass and see them right up close, which I didn't like. Now the zoo pays much more attention to animal cruelty, and keeps them in huge enclosures, and people can't get close to them at all. Which means that visitors can maybe catch a glimpse of them in the distance, and it's really boring, lol! And I have a phobia of eating, but now that's mainly because it makes me ill, so it's not so irrational as it used to be when I was a child and was just weird. I didn't let them put me out because I didn't want to pay for that and because I'm afraid of being unconscious, but I freaked. I think the dentist's lack of a bedside manner didn't help me. He was all logical about it, and pointed out there was a chance that he could break my jaw. This did not help. I think I fear pain and situations where I don't have control. I'm also scared of spiders and heights in a very irrational way. And death and the unknown. I have many fears. And there's also my fear of insanity, and any loss of my mind. I used to be very afraid of being alone, but that fear seems to have sort of went away... I think it was taking too much energy to maintain it... or something... and I still partially fear the darkness that lies somewhere in human nature... I work very hard on trying to overcome my fears. Probably the mother of a lot of these fears is my fear of not being able to be strong enough to overcome all my other fears and do the right thing if a situation ever arose where I would need to keep myself, or of sacrificing my ideals to save myself out of fear or weakness. It doesn't feel stable enough yet. I also really don't like clowns. It's not fear... it's just an extreme dislike. And I've always felt distrustful of people in Santa Claus outfits, I think because I felt they were often being fake when I was a child. I wanted to yell at people in such costumes and tell them to start acting "real" again. I guess it's more masks and facades that I dislike... maybe there's some fear in there somewhere.
