There are shows I watch and love like "Once Upon A Time", "Agents of Shield", "The Flash", etc. I see where special effects are vastly better, of course, and where there is vastly more continuity from episode to episode. Now I admit that, with rare exceptions, shows like Herc and Xena are vastly superior to the shows of previous eras like the 60's or 70's, even the 80's. But for some reason, I just don't see the "vast superiority" of current shows to those shows of the 90's like Hercules and Xena. In fact, many of the shows I like such as "Agents of Shield" have a huge camp quality. I think it's more that, about every decade, the Powers That Be and maybe the audience just changes their minds about what style is "good" and what isn't. Definitely, with every passing decade, there seems to be a new "in" way to do things that will be outdated in another ten years.

They realized they couldn't just start over because Star Trek still had way too much of as fan base to dismiss the original series as if it never happened. They had to acknowledge the original and say it happened even if they used time travel to effectively reboot.
And that's what I hope they do for any Xena reboot as well. It's clear that Lucy Lawless is willing to reprise the role on a limited basis. And while Lucy Lawless obviously doesn't speak for Renee O'Connor, I get the impression that if LL was on board, then ROC would come along as well.
I personally think it would be foolish for NBC to completely ignore the opportunity to link the "reboot" to the original series by failing to utilise Lucy Lawless and Renee O'Connor in their original roles. Even if they wanted a complete, 100% reboot with further adventures of "Xena and Gabrielle", they could still have some basis for the original Xena and Gabrielle going back in time to meddle in events to bring their characters together earlier or in different circumstances to prevent some horrible thing from happening. They would then create an alternate timeline which could be followed over the course of the rebooted series.
After all, alternate timelines, parallel universes, re-cast characters, etc aren't exactly new ideas for the series. And if they get something "wrong", then it really wouldn't be Xena if not for a YAXI or two (or more).

I sort of don't trust that a new series will hold up to the old one, especially since the goal at this point will just be to make some money by jumping on this big nostalgia train. I worry about the modernizing of it all. New, up to date special effects would be good, but they'll probably want to get rid of the "whooshing", make the overall season arch into more structured storytelling, and the idea of a whole new cast and new writers doesn't sit well with me.
I'm less in favor of a new series, and more hoping for one big movie or something with the original cast, to give the fans one last bang. FIN was horrid, and I think they should be making up for that with a sort of new finale to the story.

I would love to see a Xena reboot with a completely new cast that is darker and less episodic than the original series.
I would rather see a new cast in TV series reboot, than see the original cast flop in a feature film.
