So very true about Italian opera, atrophy! I recall Ted saying in one of his interviews that he strongly felt people just don't act this way when they're about to die, and that the best thing would be to go with Joxer not even realizing that he's dying. Good instincts, Ted! And yeah, Ares seems to have a much more active role in the script.... anyway, I like the aired version much better in almost every way. If only they had cut that cringeworthy "Who's my girl?" line.

) and then suddenly he's acting like an overeager soccer dad? Also, I really didn't like seeing Ares as a gung-ho cheerleader for Livia in that scene. The only thing that mitigates the ... well, hideousness of his actions in pitting Xena and her own daughter against each other is that he's doing it out of pain. Of course I suppose this line is bravado, but ... it just felt wrong to me.
I'm really glad they didn't revisit that storyline.
