In ANE, when Xena threatens to cut her into 5 pieces with her chakram, Callisto backs off 2. In MI, when Hope threatens to have Dahak, a god not even on this plane, mind you, kill her, Callisto backs off. Why do you think she did those times? Do they make sense to you? Otherwise, why would she plead in Return of Callisto for Xena to save her? So for me, it made sense that she was cautious in those scenes.

Dehak was the only person that could end her all together...to just not exist. I think she backed off of Xena because Callisto was always trying to play games with Xena, and Callisto had her own intentions to take care of. XTW Celebrating Xena's travels

When Callisto was human, Xena never threatened her with that savage an attack. Chances are good that if Hope had made good on her promise, Dahak would have taken a very long, painful time to kill Callisto, if he killed her at all. He sought vengeance against all the Greek gods; imagine his wrath against the one who betrayed his daughter. Callisto wanted instant obliteration, no more suffering. Dahak would never dispatch her quickly, and probably would make her live forever in even worse pain than Tartarus. Oath on Athena's Sword - Trust in Athena's Word
