Does anyone have this article or remember what was in it?

First Citizen Posts: 130 02/21/12 4:10 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I have this issue, but the only thing that is really mentioned is that the twilight of the gods was supposed to be a storyline on both Xena and Hercules, with cross-overs, but because Hercules stopped they ended up doing it in a more abbreviated fashion on Xena. I never heard about the one about the Americas before. That would have been fun.

Villager Posts: 55 04/25/12 12:17 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Kevin Sorbo says in his memoir that he wanted Hercules to have a full final season and that Rob got mad he wouldn't do more seasons after that and decided to end the show early. Wonder if that's true!

Moderator Royal Posts: 5690 04/27/12 5:24 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	This is Rob Tapert's explanation on why the show ended: There were stories around that the studios asked Kevin Sorbo to take a big pay cut. That was part of any standard negotiation. In reality, the studio wanted to replace Hercules with a new show. The ratings were in decline and additionally Kevin just didn't want to do the show anymore. My attorney and I met with his people, we laid out a game plan where we wanted Kevin to commit to three more years of Hercules, and we'd find a place to sell it. But it would require him committing to three more years of Herc and he just didn't want to do that. He didn't want to wear those heavy leather pants anymore. I'm a producer, it's my job to get every single cent out of everything I can, and I felt that there was still a dollar left in Hercules. I personally enjoyed working on it a great deal. I liked Kevin, I liked Michael, and I liked the relationship that they had together on screen. I liked many the stories we told. source Banner made by Pandora.

Four Star General Posts: 4428 05/05/12 3:40 AM Mostly Harmless Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I'd take both Tapert's and Sorbo's explanations with a generous dosage of salt - not that I think that either is lying per se, but everybody brings their own perspectives and biases to a situation. I don't blame Sorbo for being uninterested in committing to 3 more seasons of Herc when it was clear that the studio had no interest in renewing it and RT could only tell him that he's shop it around to other customers. Syndicated television was going through major changes at that time, and a lot of shows (Xena and Herc among them) were caught in the downdraft - no one wanted to spend money on expensive scripted dramas or action-adventure series when you could make as much or more money with super-cheap reality programming. OTOH, there was no reason for RT to produce a full final season when Sorbo wouldn't commit to anything more and Xena was a much more profitable series by that time. Both sides had a point . . .
