We thought an explanation as to what is expected of all our noble warriors in battle regardless of army would be helpful. After conferring with the opposition I hope this will help everyone work in the same direction
The rough guide to battling in the ASG
Please speak to your army leaders if you want to issue your own challenge to the enemy.
You are all free to volunteer for an open challenge issued by the enemy but the fight is conducted with the approval of the army leaders. If for any reason it was felt it would be inappropriate for that fight to go ahead it will be vetoed and you would be PM’ed accordingly.
Terms of Battle
Ensure you agree on what the terms of your fight will be.
Armed or unarmed combat. If armed, specify the weapons being used and the quantity you have (IE no pulling out a secret weapon you didn’t have to begin with)
The location - Decide whether you are both happy to use the terrain as a weapon. Eg Fighting in a forest would suggest you are free to slam your opponent into trees.
Check your time zone and your opponents carefully. Make sure both of you know when you are supposed to be starting. Please ensure that you advertise your fight start time in YUKU for the benefit of everyone in the ASG.
Once you have decided on a time and date be sure to advertise this with as much notice as possible. The armies can’t all enjoy it if they don’t know it’s happening and we like to lend our support if we are free.
It is recommended that you create a new thread in which to conduct your battle. This way you can set the location to your liking and the jeering audience won’t crash yuku when it inevitably fails to cope with all the posting traffic XD
It is expected that you afford your opponent the opportunity to decide what happens to them. (this doesn't mean you can't land a punch here or there but in the main let them decide how it affects them).
The safest way to have a fair fight is to make your move but don't answer for your opponent.
"The warrior takes a running jump at the enemy, legs extended to kick her full-force"
They then get to decide what happens next; whether they dodge the attack, whether they are hit and if so, how hard and so forth. Most people are quite happy to along with this and will take hits gracefully. (if they don't, then the onus is on them anyway and you're still playing by the rules).
What doesn't go over too well with anyone is making an attack and then answering for your opponent.
*The warrior takes a running jump at the enemy, slamming her feet into her abdomen and sending her crashing to the ground.*
This doesn't allow your opponent any choice but to end up on the ground and make their next move from there. Just take care not to leave your opponent in a no win situation.
Please also note that you must not control your opponents character through roleplay. Not only can you not answer hits for your opponent, but also do not give them lines or actions either. (This is different from the other regular roleplay threads in the ASG where the rules are a little more lax and more often than not you’re co-ordinating your activities with the person concerned behind the scenes)
It's extremely difficult to have a totally fair fight, but it is possible if both parties are aware of these 'rules of thumb'.
DO NOT God-Mod under any circumstances. This refers to spectacular and completely unrealistic skills or athletic prowess being displayed.
Eg. Dodging all attacks, never being hit, not reacting appropriately to an injury
Also there is no use of magic or shaman- like skills allowed.
Remember whilst goddess Callisto could shimmer in and out at will and Xena defied the laws of gravity every week it is not acceptable that you can do the same.
Fight until you drop but don’t be surprised if it’s a draw
