Hallo, dear Co-Fans! 
This is a question I could pose in the scrolls-Forum too, but somehow I feel it is a Shipper-question.
To say it right away: it concerns our favourite episode "BESESSENE SEELEN/SOUL POSSESSION".
First:
Now to the question: did anybody of You also feel astounded about the "turning point" in the story?
Ares asks her what would have happened, if [I don't remember what, right now
],
than Xena tells him "You'll never know.", kisses him and takes away the treaty about her soul.
And then she just wonders away, and Ares is standing there, smiling...
It seems as if he only much later realises that Xena took away the treaty. My question is: WHY?
Is Ares really that stupid that he does not realises when somebody steals anything from him?
Or - perhaps- is there a small voice in his head who told him: "What You did was wrong - let her get away?"
Or is it just bad writing?

I rather like the he concedes defeat and admires her for outsmarting him theory, though. He's beat, so he lets it go like a sporting man and takes
another route. Doesn't explain why he went on a rampage once the scroll was uncovered in the future, but my theory there is that the real Ares was trapped
in the tomb by Hephaistos' eye still and the "Ares"s seen past that point are clones that weren't made properly, terrorizing people while
they searched for their mother to achieve their Reunion. (FF7 geek joke. Don't ask.)
