Not a moment too soon, either... even though I love my handheld, I was tired of typing on it!
Anyway, I am a complete NOOB with Linux and Ubuntu. Anyone here use it?
It is SOOO much nicer than Windows.

My PC fritzed out on me a couple few weeks ago, and I couldn't figure out the problem... anyway, long story short, I quit trying to figure out the problem
and get Windows back up and running, got an Ubuntu Live CD burned, and installed that bad boy, and here I am.

A while back I was running Ubuntu server edition on my computer, it's a wonderful operating system, unfortunately my configuration changed and I needed to
reinstall Windows. But i'm running Win7 at the moment which seems to be working well.
Glad you're enjoying it

Yay for us! LOL
I just installed Wine yesterday and got some of my can't-live-without .exe's going, and now I really am in heaven. It's different how things are set up in Ubuntu - like, there's no C: drive, for instance - and how you change settings and look for applications and hardware drivers is not the headache it can be in Windows, and you have waaaay more control over what's happening with installations. I've started to have dreams where I have to stop and gain root. I've got to get a laptop for school, and that'll have Windows 7 on it for school reasons, but I'm pretty happy with my desktop's new clothes, so far. |

I've used Linux on my dads computer for years and used wine and it's got so good it actually replicates the error screens lol. Also on my laptop I was
using firefox in wine and it came up with a load of virus warnings. Was quite amusing really.

That's so weird! But kinda funny. You take stuff for granted in Windows, where it's all clicky-clicky no-brainer, then you come over to Linux and
you're all "sudo woohoo liblab something gkecho -a /etc/dev/null -w -t -f" just to change a setting in something.
I had to get a comp with Windows on it for school, though, and it's got to be my primary, but the Ubuntu machine is moving to the back room where it's going to take over as a media machine/writing desk/sandbox. I can't believe it took me that long to try it, and install it... that live CD is great! |
