I am sure this has been discussed but as I said in another thread, I would like to see more activity on this forum and since I didn't participate in many, many discussions, I hope ya'all don't mind if I bring some old issues up.
During the show's run, we saw a couple of other potential romantic interests for Xena, named above. What is your take on these?
I for one found the Ulyess story to almost be like Perdicus in reverse. Maybe at this point in the relationship the girls were still testing the waters as to where their relationship was going. I found Ulyess to be more of a man in need of Xena and in awe of her, being a polar opposite to the woman back home that he was in love with. Such relationships don't usually go far. (Case in point-Perdy boy was mercifully killed before finding out how long his marriage would last.) I also have a problem with any and all shows that show people falling in love in such a short time.
With Rafe I saw an attraction and maybe by this point Xena was feeling a bit of a need to save another being as she felt that Gabrielle had saved her. I certainly didn't see anything else and felt that the relationship was more threatened by Najara then it ever was by this guy.
Antony was a hunk in my book and I have talked to a lot of mothers who have expressed raging hormones during pregnancy. I definitely felt that she liked the guy and the plan was to seduce him. I honestly felt that she wanted him to be the right one for Rome and she tested him. He failed by flat out telling her about the innocent blood that would be shed. The man who could be a gentleman was filled with bloodlust and too far gone to take a chance on. Just because she was saddened by having to kill him does not equate to being in love in my book and TPTB were stupid in attempting to show this.
I loved the scene in the bath when Gabrielle interrupts because she was enjoying her job far too much and just as Gabrielle has snapped her out of her vengeance mode in eps like the Price and Ties that Bind, she once again reels Xena in, only this time with a killer glance.
If I ever finish my latest story, this part of "the Plan" is discussed by the girls and you get the idea that Xena paid a bit of a price by letting her hormones get the best of her.
Even Marcus didn't phase me as it was early in their relationship and I really didn't think they Xena and Gabrielle were an item at this time. But talk about commitment issues. She only tells him that she loves him after he is dead.
I think its safe to say that she knew that she wouldn't have to back the words with actions at this time and later she refers to him as the only man she loved. Loving someone and being in love are two very different things.
Okay, so what do you guys think? Anyone agree or disagree? Any different theories? And just how did Xena take Gabrielle after the whole Ulyess adventure?
Take care
