Xena fandom and our ships |

I've just recently gotten into the Smallville fan community, and one thing I've noticed, their (and just about every other sci fi/fantasy related
television show) characters' couples ships are referred to by combining their names together (i.e. Lois and Clark is referred to as Clois) and I noticed
why don't we do that? I know its a silly topic but it just dawned on me. We subbers never say Xenabrielle, or shippers say Xares

In Torchwood they say Gwack (Gwen/jack) or Janito (Jack/Ianto). Dunno why it never caught on for Xena.

In 7th Heaven:
Marthie (Martin & Ruthie) Kecy (Kevin & Lucy) Touched By An Angel: Mondrew (Monica & Andrew) Ohh, and I have come across one in the Xena fandom! XenAres!

Personally, I find the "combined named for 'ships" vogue rather annoying, so I'm glad it hasn't caught on in the Xena fandom.

I agree, I don't know if I'd like the combined names when it comes to the Xena fandom. Not sure why our fandom has been one not to use them.
In Buffy, there's Bangle (Buffy/Angel) and Spuffy (Spike/Buffy). Hmmm... not sure what determines which name comes first.

But mostly as a short cut to typing two names and a slash. And I think Xena pre-exists the melding of names. I'm not sure they were doing that in the '90's. |

And I think Xena pre-exists the melding of names. I'm not sure they were doing that in the '90's. That's a good point, Aresbitch. You know, I also think that with the Xena fandom, we use acronyms instead of merging names. So XA and XG (and so on) are used to abbreviate the ship generally.

Maybe it also has something to do with the terms "Shipper" and "Subtexter" being used so much. By saying someone is a subber people
immediately know what Ship they ship!

The name combination does appear to be the most common out there in though it probably is unnecessary for our fandom (we already have rather good sets of names
and if not we'll just make something up and add -text), but I kinda get a kick out of the different combinations. Especially the ones with a little more
thought and fun in them, like; GSR (CSI), Salsa (CSI), Lard (L Word, I freakin' love this one
your dreams are dead. submit. |
