I was watching season 6 and it dawned on me that they had Xena with a deep orange-ish tan in both season 1 and 6. Did anyone like it, or was it too much? I
have to go with no. The color didn't look right on Lucy. I think they tried to make her look more 'Greek' or maybe exotic, but I think she looked
like that naturally.
Which look does Xena look better? (Result) |

The middle picture isn't a good comparison because that's not how it really looked. The season 6 DVD's for some reason are really saturated in reds
and greens (is it only the USA DVD's that are like this or are the other DVD's from other countries the same as well?--I've been meaning to ask).
The other two pictures..... I think look basically the same. I liked the tan. I thought it looked natural and therefore, it never really crossed my mind. |

I don't think it was something that was particularly done on purpose. I think it just happened to be what the lighting was like, or however much longer
Lucy had been out n the sun on a particular week.

I dont rememeber her being so orange. Maybe Aurora is right. There must be a difference in the dvds. Here in Australia it doesnt look that orange.

True. I did notice the cinematography of season 6 was very hue orientated. Her eyes stood out A LOT.

I love her in every season, any way I think is the filter of the camera used, or the quality of the DVDs

I preferred the "lighter" tan that LL sported in the later seasons.
The super-tan in the earlier seasons doesn't look that bad on the DVDs, but the lighter colour seemed to work a little better (and it saved LL all those hours of scrubbing her shower floor tiles). Then again, if I was the lucky person who got to apply the tan, I'm sure I would have been in favour of it staying darker/thicker for longer. Cheers. |

According to a documentary where they were talking about the makeup, the tanning makeup got lighter and lighter throughout the series. When they first started,
the tan was a little too dark, I really prefer the lighter makeup.

Darker.
I think that lovely shade of bright orange on the pic is not exactly how it looks on screen though. It seems that all the colours in s6 were with higher saturation (hence some of the great screencaps there : D ) . I admit it did looked a bit 'over the top' at some points. But s1 darker tan works for me. |

I'm a fan of the darker tanned look. It gave Lucy more of the Sabatini-effect that she was looking for in the beginning, though she looks pretty fine in all the seasons to me.

Well it was Lucy's idea for Xena to have a tan and I never really thought it looked fake or orange, I thought it was quite subtle so I can't vote for
either.

I dont remember the s6 difference but I do notice that in s1 she has a darker tan and I believe Lucy also said so in the making of who's gurkhan.
I didn't like her as dark as in s1 but the rest of the series ... fine to me:) |

I could be wrong, but I believe I remember a commentary with RT on the US season 6 dvd set. Not sure which ep, tho. But anyway, he was talking about the
opening credits changing that season, and I believe he also mentioned something about using a different camera than they had previously, which would explain
the color change. Just thought that might shed some light on the "over saturated" colors of that season. Anybody else recall this commentary, or am I
crazy?

i always thought that the extremely orange season 6 xena was from the way the lighting was made when it was filmed....i always thought it had more to do with
the technical aspect rather than an actual tan.
