Despite the fact that I'm a bit of a Caesar aficionado, I'm not sure I can see my way to rating him any higher than a seven (and would be six if it weren't for Karl's wonderfully hatable performance.) As he was portrayed on the show, IMO Caesar was essentially a one or perhaps-two-note character--his characterization had nowhere near the depth and richness of say, Callisto or Ares. (Rather disappointing for someone who played such a key role in Xena's past.) There was a lot of potential there, but unfortunately, it went unrealized IMO.

Let's see...the questions:

Why do you like or dislike him? What do you most like/dislike about him?

Caesar's one of those characters I just love to hate. As portrayed by Karl, his charisma, serene arrogance, narcissism, and absolute conviction in his destiny all combine to create a very magnetic character--it's easy to see how a young Xena was swayed by him in Destiny. I found his dynamic with Xena throughout the series--the mutual obsession/hatred/attraction--to be utterly riveting, something that always caught my attention. However, as I said above, I felt he remained a fairly shallow character throughout the series, especially in comparison to, say, Callisto. That would probably have to be my biggest dislike about his character--the missed opportunities.

What episode(s) was he best/worst in? What are your favorite and least favorite Caesar lines or scenes?

Probably my absolute favorite Caesar episode is WIR. I enjoy the Roman setting and the somewhat atypical focus on political maneuvering as opposed to physical combat, and the three-cornered dynamic between him, Xena and Pompey, is just great (and something I would have liked to see a lot more of). As for my least favorite....hm, that would probably have to be WFC, largely because it was the last chance to give him any character development and I feel they missed it. For favorite/least favorite scenes....I'm not sure. The scene where he returns to Xena in Destiny may in fact be both of them at once, just for the strength of emotion. It was that scene, right there, that sparked my interest in him as a character, and in fact I'm not sure there's another scene in the whole series that I found that affecting and even painful to watch.
