Heres the first clips of Gabrielle as the Eagle, won't put up the other it gives away to much of the story. I really like the scene were Xena asks Eagle
gabrielle to leap off a cliff, mostly because of Xena trying to calm her down when she freaks out then saying yes you can do it.

Did anybody notice towards the end that the titans... and gabrielle, suddenly became humungus? Great continuity!

The animations are a MAJOR turn off. I mean, why did they have to make Xena look like the living dead? However if it came across my path I wouldn't refrain
from watching it.

I don't know why people are bashing the animation. As someone else said, it was great for its time. Plus, everyone couldn't have hated it too much
because they had that very same animator come back and do an entire trading card series for Xena, in which he drew many other characters that weren't even
in the movie.
Check out the card series animations here: http://www.scifihobby.com/products/xena/animated/

As someone else said, it was great for its time. How was it great for its time? This was the late 90's. It was a style that I didn't care for and felt like a throwback to something from the 60's. It actually looked like comic book characters (which I guess is okay if you like that). Granted, I've not watched a lot of cartoons but the animation definitely wasn't great for me. Disney had much better animation back then. IMO I like this to look more real than more fake. The animation for this movie was too blocky for me, I guess.

If you look at Cartoon Network or Nickelodean shows from the late '90s(i.e. Johnny Bravo, Powerpuff Girls, Courage The Cowardly Dog, CatDog), it was very
similar to them, and I really don't think it was that bad.
And frankly, I don't see how anyone could hold the animation against watching or enjoying the movie, because as I have said before, it is Lucy Lawless and Renee O'Connor, along with Kevin, Michael, Kevin, and Alex as their Xena & Hercules roles. That is really all that matters.

I guess, for me, it's just too funny watching the animation. That's just my taste. I don't think it's that good. I'm not much of a cartoon
person, anyhow.
Like I said, I might have to see it again to pass judgment but the storyline didn't really work for me that much, either.

The animation is pretty bad and the plot is very silly, but it is worth watching at least once. If nothing else, you do get to hear a pretty decent song and
laugh a lot. My kids LOVE this movie and have seen it at least 50 times. If you were an adult when it came out, you might not like it (at least think it is a
great piece of cinema). If you were a kid when it came out, you'd love it because kids aren't all cynical like us crotchety old adults and they can
see the beauty and fun in pretty much any cartoon. My 6 year old loves the old black and white Superman cartoons that I got at the Target dollar bin.

LMAO @birdtext nice
I loved how stylized it was! I got it when it came out as VHS lol, good 'ol days! Even more so, the fact that this was all hand drawn! Whereas these days, it's all computer. |

images from the cartoon to the real thing.

vanlord52 wrote: i actually just looked at the cards, and it seems like the artist added more detail to the later characters he drew. i think that was my main issue with the animation, they simplified everything too much. The faces of the characters were so one dimensional and since when was xena's armor held on by strings!! |

I've honestly got nothing to say about the animation, cause that's after all about artistic choices. Granted this was probably a choice made by budget
rather than artistic intentions, still it's like any art. Some will appreciate, others won't.
The truly silly nature of the movie was the plot. That was just simple and strange. But I guess even that's up to each one of us. your dreams are dead. submit. |
