It seems that america can accept a Black man as president, but not the love between two people. I wonder if people will ever GET IT! I'm with you sofia...unfortunetly things take time, why this takes so long for people to understand I don't know. There reasons are because it's against the bible...but doesn't the bible also say we should stone people...crucify...etc. But we don't...and these then there are those who don't want the bible to take any precedence with the government...so therefore the fact of what the catholic church beleives shouldn't matter. right? It's all rediculous and I personally believe it'll happen...heck we came from so much... With slavery look at us now...and women voting, a long time that wasn't heard off...so in time I hope they will see the light. Yes, California had recently accepted it. The ACLU and other groups are already planning on taking it to the Supreme Court. If it does, think this could be a turning point for gay rights. Oh yes. Our good friend the Bible. According to it, one can stone their neighbor for working on the Sabbath. HOWEVER, I doubt that'd stand up in a court of law, so why should they pick out the passages they chose to live by? The ones, might I add, that tend to hurt the most and be the most cruel. That isn't going to happen, because the religious organizations are the ones with the money to fund the groups. The groups that have the money are the ones that have better exposure usually. You have the right, in America to believe in whatever god or gods you want, but I do not believe that those beliefs should be spoon fed into the government and be the rational for decisions such as this. It doesn't help that the media blows it out of the water on top of it. But still how many children are left without parents...how many are loss to abortion...how many are in homes of abuse? Okay so I'm ranting but it's just I don't understand why it's not legal yet. Can there not just be one government that is just simple and straight foward without making all these little things get in the way of ACTUALLY helping the "people"? Now I would just love for everyone who voted yes to just beable and look all of these people in the face that had gotten married while it was legalized and explain to them WHY. WHY is it so important to you to destroy something so sacred between 2 people that love each other, when it has absolutely nothing to do with you at all? WHY? Tell me why you deserve to beable to declare your love to the whole world and make it official when i cannot have the same opportunity? Well, if you really wanted to get technical...lesbianism, or even 'a woman lying with a woman as she would a man' isn't even mentioned...and I'm not going to bore you guys by getting into reasons I think the Bible isn't true to the exact word. lol Now to answer your question. I honestly don't know. I know if left to the states, I'll never be able to marry my girlfriend if we chose to. (I'm assuming my current gf and I stay together. lol) We would never be able to marry here in Kentucky, it's just too conservative. Although Ohio, where she's from, might be a little more likely, I highly doubt it. Still, if the federal government stepped in and said, "hey. you MUST allow them." then we wouldn't have to move somewhere just so we could get married. So I'm really torn at the moment. I just want to pop em on the head bc that makes no since at all. You can't use the book in question for it's on reference. Actually, the word "homosexual" (or "invert" as it was referred to by the psychologists who invented the term) wasn't coined until some time in the 1880s. In fact, the word "heterosexual" didn't even exist until then. Ironic, eh? I don't have the exact references in front of me, but the term they lock on to in Leviticus is really a Hebrew word that refers to "temple prostitutes." Marriage in Biblical days wasn't even about love or attraction, it was about property ownership and ensuring the continuation of the male lineage (i.e. procreation). What we refer to now as marriage bears no resemblence to what the Bible spoke of as marriage. On another note, one of my co-workers (goddess bless his little pagan soul) got into a debate with four of the females in our office yesterday about gay marriage and Prop 8. He posed to the most resistant woman (that used the Bible as her excuse) what she would prefer her son to grow up to be - a murderer or a homosexual. She couldn't decide. Something is fundamentally wrong with a person that can't deal with that kind of moral dilemma. My mother actually told me one time that she'd prefer I was a muderer than a lesbian.
