We all know that in S 5 Joxer marries Xena's remarkable look-a-like, Meg, but would it have been more fitting if he married someone who looked like
Gabrielle? How would Gabby and Xena felt about it?

I think it's actually kinda cute that he and Meg ended up together, so no, I wouldn't have preferred a Gabby-look-alike for him. In some ways that
would have made me wonder if he was merely 'settling' for someone just because of her looks.

I voted no. If Joxer could never have Gabrielle, Meg would come in second. Meg and Joxer have ben on ever since the beginning, and even while he was in love
with Gabrielle.
If he were to think Gabrielle was dead(Looking Death In The Eye; Eve), Meg would be the girl for him. Frankly, I wonder how 2 idiots like Joxer and Meg produced a brilliant person like Virgil. |

No - it would be a little creepy, and as Jinx said, it would look like he was only settling on her based on her appearance.

i think it would have been funnny to have a comical character who maybe was played by renee but abit more geeked up and less attractive looking who maybe had a
crush on joxer, which joxer didnt like. That would be kinda cool, but not actually marrying her.

No, it would feel forced with already having Xena lookalikes plus I love Meg, I think Joxer ending up with her was very sweet

Nope. It was creepy enough that he married a woman who looked identical to the woman who was the partner of the woman he was in love with (although I also like
to think Joxer loved Meg in a more realistic manner than his untold devotion to Gabrielle).
And no more look-a-likes on the show. It was an interesting premise at first, but Ancient Greece must have had a teeny tiny gene pool. It wasn't just the multiple Xenas running around that was confusing, but the fact Borias looked the same as Khrafstar and that other guy, not to mention his son Belach, etc. And it must have been annoying for Xena and Gabrielle to keep running into people who they thought was someone else - Melosa, the sheriff chick, the nomad leader chick, etc. Cheers. |

No. Like has been said, it would be as if he dated her only because of her looks, because she happened to look like Gabrielle. The look-a-like idea sounded fun
to me at first (not for Joxer to crush on or to crush on him, simply a look-a-like), but it would be a little too much. It's good as it is, with Leah, Meg
and Diana running around, and all others.

Nope. Like the others I think that would have been very creepy. Joxer loved Gabrielle because she was Gabrielle, not because of the way she looked.

No, because Joxer really wasn't drawn in initially by Gabrielle. Joxer was there from the beginning to be beside Xena.
He probably had the hots for Xena but when he actually got close to her realized that she was entirely out of his range. So, what do you do when you find someone entirely out of your range? Start looking around for someone more on your level and how convenient if the person that's more on your level (social, emotional, age, financial, physical, etc.) happens to be the best friend and sidekick of the person you really admire - the person with all the power - the person who's really the star. Let's put it this way - suppose - just suppose - that Xena's sidekick happened to be a younger sister that looked alot like her, or perhaps, a twin that had emotional and personality characteristics like Gabrielle. Joxer would have gone for her in an INSTANT and never even looked at the "annoying blonde"...."the brat". Gabrielle BECAME a "trophy". I know how this works because it happened to me once. I wound up convincing myself that I was attracted to someone that I really wasn't all that attracted to because I thought being with them or getting in their good graces could get me something else. As long as I was in that social situation, there was no convincing me that I wasn't "in love". Within months of pulling away from that situation, I realized that the attraction really wasn't an attraction at all. I got it in my head that there was some worth, some value to pursuing this person but it really wasn't love. I was equating status or whatever with love. When I saw this situation play out with the Joxer character, I recognized it as something very similar. I think he liked Gabrielle EVENTUALLY as a very close friend, someone he'd trust his life with. I think he knew Gabrielle was attractive to many people and if you're in love with Xena - why wouldn't you be fascinated and consumed with what she's attracted to? If you worshipped Xena - what a coup it would be, if you could seduce Xena's lover/friend right out from under her. Then Xena would have to notice you, right? Then Xena would have to give you the time of day and have to engage with you in some way, wouldn't she? And most of all, Xena would have to acknowledge that you had some power over her. Now, that's really the game at the core. Joxer going after a Xena look-alike is true to his character. |

I never seen Joxer as particularly attracted to Xena at all actually. He wanted to fight beside her and hero worshipped her as a warrior, but I think he always
had a thing for Gabby.

No, for all the reasons mentioned by Elfrieda, Jolly, GWAC, squint, Haeph, and others. Creepy and wrong -- it would have been a little too much like he was
using her as a living, breathing Gabrielle doll and pretending she was really Gabrielle. (Reminds me a bit of the movie Vertigo in which the hero
meets a woman who looks eerily like his dead beloved and sets out to remake her into an exact copy of the woman he lost -- but there, it's meant
to be creepy as h#ll.)
I have to say I entirely disagree with absinthe about Joxer's motivations for being in love with Gabrielle. I definitely didn't see her as someone he was "settling" for because Xena was out of his league, and for that matter I never thought he was particularly hot for Xena. Sure, he was flattered in Warrior ... Princess ... Tramp when he thought Xena had the hots for him -- who wouldn't be? |
