As many of you may already be aware of, the mods have been working to come up with a solution to the problem of political threads at the XOC. Also, you may
have noticed that we have closed all the current and old political threads.
Unfortunately, we have had a number of political threads lately that have turned nasty and hostile, and people have been complaining about too many political thread in The Lounge, especially since sometimes the title of a thread will be in itself confrontational and cannot be avoided by anyone visiting the forum.
Some have asked us to ban all political discussions on the forum outright until the election. However, we feel this would be too restrictive. As a solution, we are creating a single thread for all election-related discussions. ALL materials related to the election should be posted here. All older political threads have been locked and any new political threads created from now on (until the election) will be merged into this one.
Discussion and/or debating are allowed so long as it is conducted in a civilized and respectful manner, just as we would expect on any other thread in any other forum. There will be no name-calling toward other posters or the candidates and no inflammatory language such as referring to any of the candidates as fascists, Nazis, or communists, comparing them to Hitler, etc.
If you break any of these rules you will receive a thread warning. If there is another single infraction by the same poster (who has already received a warning) you will be banned from posting in this thread. If you continue to post in this thread, after having been banned, you will receive a board warning which can lead to a total board ban (after three board warnings). For the purposes of this thread we will skip the reprimand stage and go straight to the warning stage. All thread warnings and bannings will be announced in this thread as they occur.
