Eve you can buy these things that work like a usb device - you simply plug it into your USB and you can get the internet from anywhere, the bus, train, etc.

You can get it on a monthly plan, but I prefer the prepaid option - when your internet usage runs out you simply top it up.

EDIT: It's completely separate to the wireless internet that her mum turned off. This would be a completely different internet that her mum could not touch unless she took the usb modem (dongle) from Leigh. The link I sent you was from Vodafone, so Leigh would be connecting to a Vodafone network and not to her mum's wireless, so her mum would not even know Leigh had the internet.
