Guys, I really feel compelled to step in here, not as a moderator (since no one is breaking any rules) but as a concerned citizen, so to speak.

Of course we all want to be sympathetic and supportive to Meg, and that's fine. However, it worries me a little (a lot, actually) that some of the posts here seem to suggest that if you truly love someone, you should stay with them even if they are physically abusive. That's a pretty dangerous message. No one -- female or male, gay, straight or bisexual -- should have to put up with being hit. NO ONE.

Believe me, I'm not trying to slam Meg here. I know that Meg is seeking help for her problem, and like all of us I wish her and schtuppy the best of luck in working things out. However, I think it needs to be made clear, particularly for the young people here, that violence is not an acceptable part of the ups and downs of being a couple and not something that love can resolve.

Megsy, once again, I do wish you and schtuppy good luck. I know you're working on the problem and taking it very seriously. I certainly didn't post this to be a downer, just to remind people that violence in a relationship should not be taken lightly by anyone.

trance, I really don't want to turn this into an argument because I'm sure that wouldn't be helpful to Meg. However, having a condition that makes you more likely to lash out violently at your loved ones does not make it okay (which I think Meg clearly understands). Again, no one should be in a relationship where they expect to be hit, no matter why. Hopefully Meg is getting effective help and things will work out well.
