And by "norm-breaking" you mean "being a big lesbian" right?

I just finished We.. And I gotta say, I know Orwell credited this book as the inspiration for Nineteen Eighty-Four, but damn.. I didn't
think he'd pretty much just rewrite it o.o They have so many similarities, it's not even subtle.. [unless i'm just epically reading into it and
looking for things to compare and contrast] .. But here's the characters/places/things that're very similar..
Winston = D-503 Julia = I-330 Big Brother = The Benefactor Room 101 = "The Operation" Secret flat above shop = Ancient house Proles = People living outside the wall Winston has a diary = D-503 has a diary Mr Cherrington = U O'Brien is kind of a reverse S What happens to Winston post-Room 101 = What happens to D-503 post-Operation Anyone else read both these books who can agree/disagree/elaborate etc with me on this?

Now reading Fahrenheit 451. So far i'm enjoying the simplicity it has in comparison to other dystopians.

Just finished Fahrenheit 451. I don't usually plow through a book as quickly as I did this.. but it was such a simple dystopian, it didn't require epic
amounts of concentration.. There was no caste system, multi-tiered government body or complex societal origins to learn.. it was so straight forward. Was a
nice calm ending to my dystopian era.

I am going to begin Ian Fleming's, "On Her Majesty's Secret Service."
I actually, really don't need to read it since I lived it, but wanted to see if Mr. Fleming has done me any justice.

After a short break I am once again reading Waters' The Night Watch, and it truly is...love. She taps my internal
bobbing head doll and all I can do is nod and approve and adore. Had to quote the following passage dealing with the aftermath of WWII.
'Who didn't lose someone, or something? I could walk on any street in London, stretch out my arm, touch a woman or a man who lost a lover, a child, a friend. But I -- I can't get over it, Mickey. I can't get over it.' She laughed unhappily. 'Get over it. What a funny phrase that is! As if one's grief is a fallen house, and one has to pick one's way over the rumble to the ground on the other side...I've got lost in my rubble, Mickey. I can't seem to find my way across it. I don't think I want to cross it., that's the thing. The rubble has all my life left in it still --' Her storytelling and word-manipulation has become my new obsession, and I like it.

Gods Behaving Badly by Marie Phillips.
The Greek Gods have become somewhat rusty and outdated; living together in a cramped London flat, performing everyday jobs, and losing power, in every sense of the word. In an act of revenge, Aphrodite makes her nephew Apollo fall in love with a seemingly normal and somewhat dumpy mortal woman named Alice. Apollo is not one to take rejection well, and Alice has already fallen head-over-heels for another "dumpy" mortal named Neil. Things heat up when Apollo's twin sister Artemis hires Alice to clean for the Olympian clan, unknowingly of Aphrodite's vengeful plan. Apollo decides to take matters into his own hands, which inevitably sends the entire universe in ciaos Just started and it's quite funny.

Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston. Sometimes the dialogue can be off-putting since it's written in Southern dialect, but
the story and prose make the book an enjoyable read. I'm also slowly trudging through Cujo; should be finished with it soon.
