Did Eve ruin Xena/Gabrielle for you? |
Lead | |

I'm watching Them Bones, Them Bones (I know) and looking back, it kind of pissed me off how invested Gabrielle cared about Xena's baby knowing that
after all that trouble, she becomes a whiny pathetic 'warrior' annoying bitch (excuse my language). Anyone feel the same way?

No Eve didn't ruin things for me, the Twilight did. Eve to me in many ways took the subtext to a whole new level, no longer just couple subtext, but now it
became family subtext.
However it could have been even better if there had been some chemistry between Adrienne and Renee -- they just didn't connect. |

i must confess, i resented eve since the day she was born. no, before. but i'm not a big solan fan either actually. i just didn't like them having kids
coz the show felt more serious. I preferred when they keep it light hearted, or with the focus solely on xena and gabby like one against an army styles, no
babies to worry about.

TheJollyApe wrote: I have to agree on that, Renee and Adrienne had no connection what so ever. But from my point of view neither did she and Lucy. I liked Eve as a baby, when
she grew up she annoyed the ever living crap out of me. And, not to mention that yes, they threw in the whole "family" subtext but only in the
begining. Once the baby was born it was more of protecting her and Gabrielle never really bonded with Eve when she was an infant either. SO to me it just
sucked. They could have made it a thousand times better.

Yes, I never liked Eve... she just didn't fit in. Or maybe she was OK as a baby but it still made no sense to have her around. She was never a character I
grew to like, and she wasn't good for the subtext either :/

Like Jolly said, she did bring a new dimension to their relationship but that's not to say I liked it one bit though. Just wasn't a storyline I was
interested in. It brought with it all kinds of potential and promising possibilities, but fell flat on it's face over and over.
Subtext has little to do with what I think of Eve, but for the record, I agree that things may very well have been different had there been some shred of connection between them all.. Which there simply wasn't. I get Gabrielle not feeling all to comfortable with Xena just 'popping up' pregnant all of a sudden, which could explain the lack of an emotional bond between her and Eve. And also Gabrielle saying "you got you're daughter back" shows she never felt connected with Eve as a baby. So why should she get all maternal over someone that's 'technically' her own age once that 25yr leap did it's thing? |

The only thing I like in the whole 'Eve-storyline' is her birth. And that's it. Before and after that moment everything connected with her
character was just ... somehow misplaced, even forced at times.Twilight arc was, imo, one of the weakest moments in the show... then later Eve's constant
conciliatory behaviour and her tendency to need a saviour (Xena) or a lawyer (Gabrielle) and not to want their help at the same time.
*shrugs* I can't say she ruined their relationship for me. Her character wasn't strong enough to do that. But she didn't help the subtext cause either (and I believe there were good possibilities). I agree with Jolly, she brought certain 'family twist' but that was only in the beginning and it wasn't done as well as it could be. Later there was absolutely no connection between her and Gabrielle. Funny, I think this could've become an issue between X and G, if there was at least some real connection between Xena and Eve. And there was not. In a way, Eve was distant to both of them so she couldn't be neither an obstacle, nor catalyst for the subtext line.

I'm still not sure how i feel about Eve...... I do agree with everyone when they say that she did not connect with either Renee or Lucy however i was never
happy with the fact at the end of season 5 Xena almost killed Gabrielle to protect Eve when the furies were haunting her.... that just did not sit right with
me in my book.

I didn't like them having a child actually.. It didn't ruin everything but I would"ve prefered it without them. but Livia was an interesting
villain but I didn't really like the whole Eve storyline when she was a baby

No Eve didn't ruin anything for me, both the twilight and the 25 years thing did. I felt that Gabrielle, Xena and Eve were a family. However I HATED Livia and adult Eve

Having baby eve around was okay, sometimes it could be cute but i really hate adult eve! Livia was ok as a enemy but eve really annoyed me. Though i can't
pinpoint why!
but having her around didn't ruin x/g for me, i just have to find a way around her!
PLA Forever!! Without Gabrielle there would be no Xena! Thank you Shenanigen for the scroll. Gotta love Gabi! |

I think it would have been nice if Livia stayed the villain, and then maybe Xena kills her to save Gabrielle's life. That would even the score between Xena
and Gabrielle's sacrifice with Hope.
For the record, no, didin't like Eve. Loved Adrienne, hehe, but didn't like her character. She was very distant with X and G and I hated that X always felt so mushy around her and went out of her way to make her daughter love her. It reminds me of those mothers on Dr. Phil that are like, if I repremand my daughter, they won't love me!!! I wanna be my daughter's best friend, WAAAAAAA!! sob, sob, whine, whine. Their relationship was so contrived and tedious. I think Gabrielle had more connection to Hope. And I didn't mind little Solan...was a shame the kid got killed. |

Then I was going to applaud you for taking the incest bidness to a whole, frightening new level. Eve didn't ruin the Xena/Gabrielle relationship for me-- I blame that on the writers. Mee hee. (We are talking about season five, aren't we?) Otherwise I remain pretty ambivalent about her character. Except in the Haunting of Amphipolis, of course. |

Yay for aformentioned lack-of-connection. Eve didn't ruin X&G on the whole but it there were moments that were so blah. Like in GFC when Herc and Gabby
go off to leave Xena and Eve alone and Xena's like, "Yep baby, me you and your brother forever and ever!"

Hagrid can come too. Wugh. *shrivels up and dies* That is a sordid picture indeed. |

For me it did not ruin their relationship, cause Gabrielle was willing to protect Eve and Xena at any cost.
I also like the end of GFC, sorry, it brings tears everytime I watch it ![]()

In a way, once Eve came along they became the typical married couple, Always worried about what the kids were upto!
I agree Gabrielle and Eve didnt seem to click much at all. Xena just seemed to want Eve so badly. I think Lucy and Renee themselves thought the whole scenario was off-beat and not a lot of fun! Can't really explain why, maybe it was the actress? The Writers? Tired old show? Who knows. Annmaree's Admirations

Xena just seemed to want Eve so badly. I suppose it'd be very very wrong of me to mention that this sentence sends chills down my spine? In a good way?

However it could have been even better if there had been some chemistry between Adrienne and Renee -- they just didn't connect.Ah, yes, yes... have to agree here too.

Revolutionary 'rainbow family' | ||
|
For Me the Eve story line, although it seemed to kinda take away from xena and gabs focus a little, really made them seem like a family - a family very very
much like my own. Finaly there was a show that has two women raising a child together, they talked about raising her, Gab loved the child just as much as Xena,
as she says in them bones, them bones and for once something even resembeling a 'rainbow family' was shown on tv - not only disd the show open doors
for lesbians in media, but lesbians with kids!! REVOLUTIONARY!!
However it ALWAYS bothered me how Gab would call Eve "Your daughter" even after Xena refers to her as "our daughter" Over all i can forgive the lack of family togetherness it was the 90's and alternate family's didn't get much air time, EVER, Xena was practically the first. However in the Haunting of Amphipolis, and who's Gurkhan it get's realy anoying when gabrielle seems to just be angry at Eve all the time, never ever really connecting with her. why couldent renee have tryed to have a little more of a motherly connection with Eve... *Sigh* but it is all in the past now and this is what we have got. I'm glad that Eve was in it and I always enjoyed the idea that she was the reincarnated soul of Callisto Plus I am a Varia/Eve shipper a little, Those 2 should totally get together lol

I agree that I think Xena mysteriously showing up pregnant would threw a bit of a kink into the X/G relationship. Even the show-which was written to be
interpreted as either subber or straight-seemed to distance the relationship as the more the pregnancy progressed. I really disliked the entire Eve
storyline-even if it DID provide one of my favorite lines EVER ( Ares-I woulda PAID to see that).
I hated the whole twilight/25 year leap thing. I must admit, that I freakin LOVED Livia-having had Callisto gone cellestial earlier in the season, I was aching for a good bad girl. -But Livia only lasted 2 episodes. I HATED peace-keeping Eve-with the exception of her "telling about her mother" in you are there. I felt like they should have let her be on her "way" more than they did-I feel like the whole feel of the show took an awful detour through all of season 5 and didn't really get back into feeling like "Xena" until sometime in season 6. Maybe that's just me, though. One last peeve of mine-which I'm basically reiterating what several people have already said-I HATE the "we got our daughter back" line. I know people that feel like that line was the greatest line of the entire series, but I strongly disagree. It felt fake and forced, and I didn't believe it for a second. Especially after the good ol' Gab Hack n' Drag, it certainly did not feel right. I did not get a family vibe from that episode at all.
