I've seen episodes of Charmed off and on as they get rerun on TNT - it's amusing, but it never really came close to the depth and complexity of X:WP, or for that matter S5 H:TLJ - it reminds me more of S2 Herc. The best eps seem to be in the first 3 seasons, when Shannen Doherty was in the cast - I remember a lot of the snark from Beverly Hills 90210, but here at least it looked like Doherty took her work seriously and tried her best to give a good performance. Some of the episodes dealing with the sisters' issues with each other and their powers were quite good, even if the Demon-of-the-Week theme got rather stale. Holly Marie Combs gave a very affecting performance at the beginning of S4, as her pent-up grief and anger over Prue's death finally burst out - it was startling to see on this show.

The latter seasons don't interest me much at all. I'm not a huge Rose McGowan fan, but I think she did give it an honest effort in S4 and 5 - after that, she seemed to be phoning in a lot of her performances. I also got tired of Brad Kern's and the writers' never-ending efforts to put Alyssa Milano in the scantiest costumes possible and to have sex with the greatest variety of weird characters - yes, she's got great implants; I think we figured that out a while ago. I've seen very little of S8, but what I have seen looks fairly gross - bringing in two new characters to supplant the main cast struck me as very odd, almost as if X:WP had introduced a New, Improved Mavican to replace Xena and Gab.
