As her own name is Lucy and she uses it like this, it gives such a nice twist. In HOD I love how they use some holibi props. When Eve is praying you see the banners and the statues of the upside down fish. Here with us that refers to the gay-community. It is hilarious when Gabrielle uses it to knock down Eve. Gives you a moment to think it over. That is very nicely taken into the show. Great job. Xena4ever!

I've never heard that term before, what does it mean? I think the fish is a reference to the Ichtus (fish symbol) used by early Christians. And yeah, the "Lucy" was pretty cute. Though I'm generally not a fan of the ep. That is the universal name for the Gay-community. It takes all the lesbians and homos into one nice name. You have for example the internation Holibi federation which works to protect and advance the discrimination for the gay people. Overhere in Belgium it works perfectly and they are moving up. Besides legal weddings they are working to get both men or woman legally nominated as parents for their children. The fish symbol is nowadays the symbol for the gay-community. The symbols that fill up the sign have dissappeared, just like in the eps. You even can find it sometimes on the back of cars. It also represent a certain stream in believe. So it represents 2 possibilities. Heart of darkness is one of my favourites. Strong episode. Xena4ever!

Possibly it's a local term? The Ichtus is most known as a Christian symbol but it actually dates to pre-Christian (Ichthys was the son of sea goddess Atargatis and it was his symbol). I think it's a pretty recent thing that some some in the gay community are now using it, often in rainbow colors. I do think it's unlikely that this was a concious effort at subtext in HOD; more likely it's a religous reference.

Why do gays have to adopt the fish symbol? Couldn't they have chosen a cat or something less polemical? At least the ancient Egyptians are long gone and are unlikely to take umbrage from their place of rest. Maybe a turtle? They're nice and need protecting. I personally don't wish to be associated with any religious symbol, especially one that is going to lead to controversy. As if we need that!
