This is not really a fair summation of Joxer's feelings. He swapped the only thing his father ever gave him - that old scabbard - for a necklace for Gabrielle. When she died at the third season finale, he waited by that ruddy hole in the ground for months, putting fresh flowers there (and no, I'm not taking on the later apocryphal episode that says otherwise because it doesn't make any freakin' sense).

He risked his life more than once for her. He ran right into an armed Amazon camp to pull her out of a ritual he knew might kill her. He faced off XENA, angry, warrior Xena hell-bent on killing Gabrielle, and yeah, he got knocked out but that only makes it a braver demonstration of that love because he knew he didn't have the expertise to defend himself. He went into the Alps, faced off Romans, to retrieve her dead body (and Xena of course, who was like a hero-worshipped big sister to him). He threw himself in front of her and took a blade so that she would live on. That is the ultimate sacrifice of Love. He's screwed up, (Forget Me Not), and done some really stupid things. But you look at the wealth of the seasons they were together as friends and you see how he grew from a silly slightly-selfish braggart to a sweet-hearted goofy compatriot who was willing to take on Gods and lethal warriors to help out his family (Xena and Gabrielle), and you realise that a lot of that growth was because he loved Gabrielle so much, and their relationship helped him grow. So much of who Joxer was as a character depended on him expressing his feelings - in his own way - about Gabrielle. Xena has never shown that sort of selfless determination that Joxer has. She's never had to. She's super-human, super-wonderful, the hero of the show. It's just not in the script for her.

If you're looking at the series from that point of view, yes. But remember not all of us are. I won't deny that Xena and Gabrielle loved each other, but I like to think that the nature of that love is up to personal interpretation.

You know, I really don't feel that way about love. I'm kinda of the opinion that you're supposed to wake up and be happy that you're with someone that makes your soul sing. I'd like to think that if one looked at Xena and Gabrielle from the romantic perspective, they would think that when Xena and Gabrielle looked at each other, they both felt the greatest happiness a person could feel. Even if they *did* piss each other off sometimes and have their difficult moments. (Is that what you were trying to say, athenasword?)

As far as comparing Xena and Joxer's love... it just can't be done. You can't compare apples and oranges. Xena showed her love differently to Joxer. I enjoy Joxer's brand of lovin' and many of your prefer Xena's. I don't see any reason why we should say why one is better than the other. How they're different, and talking about those differences in a positive and engaging discussion - now that's fun. So that's what I'm here to do.
