Hardcore battle buff here. I had all the moves of most of my fav fight scenes memorized. #1 reason why I watched the show in the first place.

These are my gems:

Crusader - Hands down my favvourite. All four fights are absolutely spectacular, whether one-on-one or against the slavers. Xena, Gabrielle, Najara, and Dakh each have their own unique fighting styles and the amazing editing cleverly showcases each one brilliantly. Xena gets mad against Najara in the tavern and is screaming her guts out at this woman who has her bested. Great use of the environment as well although the stilts were a little off. One of the more violent fights. By the last fight they've reduced themselves to all out brawling and smashing each other across the face with their sword hilts. Only one or two other fights in the entire series came close to how brilliant this ep was. I have nothing but utter love for Najara because she isn't Xena's fighting twin, and she kicked her ass with her own unique brand of versatile combat. Convert? What's this Convert? Didn't happen...

The Way - Xena vs. the Demons in the opening. LL went all out for this one and you can practically see the flecks of spit flying as she howls at the top of her lungs when she duels that one demon. The different flips used by either character is a great touch. She is fierce, honies!

Coming Home - another showcase fight of different fighting styles with great choreography and editing. I love Varia's kick fighting and Eve's aikido-esque moves.

Path of Vengeance - Xena vs. Varia. A joy to behold and another tribute to kung fu movies. Love the poses they strike halfway through with the staves and Xena's smirk before she rams Varia with the pole and back.

Callisto - I'm not much for Evil Twin fights because it's often a ridiculous stalemate. But this one is really good, and the best that Xena and Cal ever had. The best is the hand duel on the horizontal ladder before Xena stomps and breaks it. Knock down drag-out fighting at its best.

Amphipolis Under Siege - Xena vs. Ilainus. If there were ever an acrobatic rival to replace Callisto, here she is. Hack n slash sword fighting interspersed with classic Xena gymnastics. Xena's salmon leap and Ilainus' backwards kickflip are amazing.

The Furies - Xena vs. Ares, by far their best fight ever. The hand duel over Cyrene's body, the sword fight on the poles, the dirty hanging kicks, everything just works.

Chakram - the opening and ending fights. Great way to contrast Amarice' double blade style with Gab's new toys. And of course dig the new chakram.

When in Rome - Yet another "mad as hell" match in the arena. Being dragged one too many times set Xena off and she's wrenching guys off horses with her bare hands, smashing them off horses with spears, and beating them in a hundred different places with double sticks. Another violent fight.

Destiny - M'Lila's fantastic fight with the pirates showcases everything great that makes Xena who she is.

Necessary Evil - two on one as mortal enemies square off against Velasca. Great touch to have Gab, Xena and Cal use different methods of making the canyon echo so the rocks fall.

The Ring - very interesting fight to pit Xena simultaneously against three very different foes: a monster, a god, and a human. But she puts up a great fight. Hilarious way to distract one by flinging the chakram forever.


This is why Hercules didn't appeal to me much

I was going to mention that one but to me it's weaker than some others. It's one of the few times we see Xena use the chakram as a melée weapon which is fantastic, but when she picks up the three swords together it's really goofy. I also don't feel that Jennifer Sky was quite used to the fighting yet, her style is a little methodically slow and sloppy. She did much better in the Chakram fights.
