My mom doesn't want me to go to a Xena con. Her reasons are as follows:
1) She thinks it's too expensive. Even though I can afford it now, she thinks it'll wipe out my savings and I can't convince her otherwise.
2) She doesn't want me traveling alone. I could understand this if I were 16, but I'm 20. I've been legally an adult for two years, and I'll be graduating from college in another two, after which I'll be out in the world on my own whether she likes it or not.
3) She doesn't like the fact that I haven't met any of you in person. She doesn't think I should believe anything you say because you might all turn out to be stalkers/pedophiles/crazy people who have no lives outside of Xena.
4) She thinks my Xena obsession is taking up too much of my time. Admittedly, this one has some basis, but I am trying to develop more of a "real life," and I feel like she'll never understand my passion for the show or the friendships I've developed through the XOC. I don't know how to make her understand.
Is it just me, or is she being a bit overprotective? She says if I decide to go to the 2009 con despite all this, she'll interpret it as me saying, "Screw you, Mom."
Will I ever be allowed to be an adult and make my own decisions?

They just
don't understand how important it is to me. I tell them stuff about Xena and that, or I'll say there's this thread about whatever, and so and so
said..., and I know they're not really listening. It's like they're thinking..it's just a silly TV show, (even though they've never seen
as ep on their lives) and she'll probably grow out of it. Arrgh!! So I know how annoying it is.
I'll talk it over with her some more, but in the end, I'm going to do what I want and she's just going to have
to accept that.

And heck, they're
probably right.
But they know better than to bug me about it.
) 20 is definitely old enough to travel alone
-- heck, it's old enough to join the Army and go to Afghanistan or Iraq! There are plenty of people that age who travel to Europe by themselves.

But the video toasts that we had at this last convention might be good.
