I'm an only child. But I have cousins that close I'm to. My Mom is very close to her siblings, so my cousins and I would sleep over each other's houses...sometimes for whole weekends and school vacations.

One of my cousins is also an only child, and her Mom babysat me a lot and we went to the same pre-school. (Her Dad is my Uncle.) We fought...well...like sisters. I'm a couple years older. We get along great now, but growing up she was always jealous of me. It's complicated, but when I was a kid and my parents were divorced my Mom and I lived with my grandmother and 4 of my Mom's siblings. So I got a lot of attention from my grandmother and those aunts and uncle because we lived together and were closer.

And...not to brag, but people just liked me better. LOL I was super shy and quiet...and people just thought that was adorable. While my cousin was a brat and threw many tantrums. The irony is, because I was shy I didn't want attention, while my cousin was throwing fits to get it.

One time we were doing that thing where you roll down hills. (Okay, doesn't sound fun now...but it was then for some reason.) Well, we rolled over a ground beehive. And as you can imagine, chaos ensued with us running around trying to get away from the swarm. I think we were hosed off. But when it came time to get the stingers out, she was screaming bloody murder and I just sat there quietly crying and her own Mom said "Why can't you be more like Michelle (me)?" Which, in hindsight I know was probably a horrible thing for her to hear from her Mom.

I have another cousin that I'm close to, his Mom (my Aunt) babysat me a lot as well. I'm three years older. We're very much alike, which makes sense because I think his Mom and my Mom are the most alike among my Mom's siblings. And we also have many common interests like music (he's a hobby DJ, I'm a hobby musician), we're both mechanically inclined, we like Sci-Fi and computers (we're both Webmasters).

I don't remember us ever fighting...not even a disagreement. In fact, we often played together without actually speaking. Last time the family was all together his Mom commented on how we used to have a secret language. I guess it seemed that way because we think so much alike, there was no need to speak. Our favorite activity was legos...we'd build stuff together. We also wrote computer text-based adventure games on his Tandy. And then we'd watch the Creature Double Feature.

And now when we're together we pretty much sit there rolling our eyes in shared suffering while our Moms bring up all our embarrasing stories. When he was 5 and I was 8 he kinda..uh...had a crush on me. It wasn't like he ever tried to kiss me or something weird like that. LOL But he did tell me I was beautiful...at the dinner table...in front of everyone. They thought it was cute, I felt all awkward. And they bring it up everytime...so we can relive the embarrasing awkwardness.
