Oh, CTS, I love Heroes too. I think all the parts where Hiro debates what it means to be a hero, are so relevant to this discussion, too.

Well said...battles can be both inside and outside. I think that sometimes we overuse the term "hero." Because there's a sense in which everyone can be a hero. There's also a sense in which heroes are the people who step up and do incredible, necessary, selfless things, and we try to want to be like them without being threatened by them (if they are something we cannot be).

Superchick has this song called "Hero":

You can be a hero, heroes do what's right You can be a hero, you might save a life You can be a hero, you can join the fight For what's right

I like that because it's the more universal sense where everyone can be a hero, because I think it's really important to act out of a sense of right and wrong, and because we don't know the impact we have. As people, we need each other, and I think we save each other's lives in more senses than just the "pull you out of the river" sense. So maybe that's what I think a hero is. Someone who walks with another, regardless of sacrifice or cost, and who does what is right.
