Perhaps Virgil was one of the many young men who tried to kiss Gabrielle in "Return of the Valkyrie", but got burned up & died by the fire.

It does kind of annoy me that TPTB never bothered to come up with an explanation for his disappearance. However, I would think that if he died trying to get through the ring of fire to save Gabrielle, this is something that would have gotten mentioned on the show. And I don't think that news of the lovely lady sleeping in the ring of fire would have spread to Greece, anyway (or anywhere beyond the Norselands). Unless Nigel mentioned it in his TV special. If the idea is that he's dead, it makes as much sense to me that he could have been killed during Caligula's reign of terror in Rome (being an Elijan). They could have mentioned it in The God You Know. On the other hand, I'm kind of glad someone connected to Xena and Gabrielle didn't die a horrible death! I know he said that all the way back in 'Motherhood', but it's possible that when he wasn't with Xena and Gabrielle he went back to his family. Banner made by Pandora.

Virgil was spared that.

But personally season 6 as a whole annoyed me, theres a huge lack of mentions of any characters who had died or were not seen again. I cant recall any Joxer mentions, unless I'm missing something.
