So i was watching a couple of the interviews last night, and i don't know if anyone else picked up on this, but i feel like Lucy might have been secretly rooting for Xena and Ares to get together. I think someone else might have already pointed this out, but it was really cute to hear her talk about Kevin and his performance as Ares. I think what made me notice this the most was when Lucy was doing TBS video commentary, she had some serious emotions going through her features as she was watching the tango scene. Also, LK pointed out that Lucy said that Ares was "the one who got away". Maybe Lucy was a closet shipper? That would be really cool. Any thoughts? ~mel

First of all, a small correction: Lucy said that Borias was "the one who got away," not Ares. I also think the emotions on her face when watching the tango had to do with her feelings about Kevin and his death, not about Ares and Xena. However, I definitely did get a shipper vibe from Lucy in her comments in THE FURIES interview. I thought it was very amusing and revealing that when Rob started to say that the studio didn't want Xena to be Ares' daugther and he started to say, "because to suggest that she had any -- " and then Lucy cut in with "romantic liaison" (and Rob said no, any divine blood in her). It says a lot that the first thing that came to Lucy's mind with regard to Xena/Ares was "romantic liaison." And I loved the way she said, after watching the look that passed between Xena and Ares near the end of THE FURIES, "She just loved those bad boys." Then again there are lots of rumors. For instance, I distinctly remember reading that the original ending of THE FURIES in which Ares turned out ot be Xena's father was changed because Lucy and Kevin both protested. One Star General Posts: 1219 04/06/04 5:20 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	One thing i do recall reading was that Lucy said that she was not keen on the kissing scenes.I think this was said just before she was due to marry Rob,and kissing someone on screen was not top of her list.I would have to say though that for someone that is not keen she certainly gave her all (g) Still I have always regarded Lucy as a great actress.

I haven't seen it all yet, but that I'd like to see. Lucy is a good actor and so was Kevin Smith. Both were able to put on the screen love and sexual attraction for each other, not to mention other people. They must have trusted each other a great deal because they seemed so comfortable together doing those scenes. How odd it would have to be to rehearse those scenes until you got it right! tol

(Not the commentary, that's Rob and Liz Friedman; in the commentary, Rob talks about Lucy and Renee having their doubts about how bad a guy Ares really was.) This isn't gossip, it's an article out there somewhere -- if anyone has a link, please post it! It was something about how Ares needed to be more charming in TXS (hence the kiss). I'm always a bit wary of ascribing motives to actors or TPTB in general. In the end, it doesn't really matter whether they wanted their character to get together with someone else, or whatever: what matters is the final product. Having said that, I also detected a shippery kinda vibe from Lucy, in the sense that she definitely saw an attraction, and affection, between Xena and Ares. I don't think it was a major part of what she thought of her character, but it does seem to be there. Incidentally, it seems that both she and Renee thought that the A/X thing was sexy (Renee said something to that effect). Again, doesn't mean that they wanted to see Xena with Ares, but FWIW, there it is. On p. 69 of Robert Weisbrot's The Official Guide to the Xenaverse, there is a passage reading: "Xenasrevival in Melindas body [gives] Lucy and Kevin new territory [in which] to explore their characters intimate rivalry (emphasis mine). As scripted, the scenes [in "The Xena Scrolls"] crackle with Ares pride and Xenas resolve, but lack any hint of their latent erotic bond (once again, emphasis mine). Gruendemann (a producer) [says] Well put it to you, Lucy and Kevin, should there be some sexual tension between the two of you? [Another producer] suggests having Xena and Ares kiss, so she can catch him off guard. Lucy is taken with the idea, saying Lets have Xena give Ares some of what hes been wanting all these years, then kick him--and just to show that Xenas not a total man-hater, Ares can appear almost to enjoy it as part of their ongoing cat-and-mouse game. Everyone warms to this, till Smith recalls that the two characters will kiss for the first time in a later episode. Lawless refines Xenas gambit: let them nearly kiss and Xena can still kick Ares.
