Is that really true? I'm proceeding here on the assumption that most shippers don't think Xena and Gabrielle are lovers, and therefore don't see Gabrielle as Ares' rival. Because then, how does Gab "come between" Xena and Ares, really? I mean, ok, she helps Xena resist the temptation of the "dark side" in THE RECKONING and TIES THAT BIND, but I assume that shippers are interested in a love relationship between Ares and Xena, not in Ares in S1-2 seducing Xena to be his Warrior Queen. Likewise -- I think that when Gabrielle stops Xena from eating the apple in YOU ARE THERE, it's not about wanting to keep Xena from being with Ares but about wanting her to stay human. In COMING HOME I thought Gabby's teasing comments to Xena about Ares having a "thing" for her weren't at all unsympathetic. Villager Posts: 74 04/20/04 12:25 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I think Gabrielle was more of a hinder to ares and xena getting together. like in ten little warlord's she wanted to tag along with xena ,and she didnt want her to go with ares at all. also in some eps she assumes ares to be the culprit. But I think the biggest thing is the grip she has on xena's decision making, like what if ares asked xena to become a godess(I know what your thinking she never would, right?) or something, even if she wanted to she would base her decision on what gabrielle thought or didnt think in stead of herself. So I think for ares and xena to be tougher, gabrielle would still remain friends with xena but be on a different path maby? Am I even making any sense? geez o well maby you'll understand what im doing a poor job of trying to explain

Warrior-in-Training Posts: 347 04/20/04 12:33 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Well she does have unfortunate timing in certain situations but as actually being the one thing that kept Xena and Ares apart - no way. I think she contributed but I have to agree with LadyKate, it was all about keeping Xena human. When Ares was mortal, to me it seemed that she would only have had the "extra person in this friendship" jealousy that would have subsided pretty soon. I think if Ares had stayed mortal and things continued on as they were going, Blondie (in the end) wouldn't have had a problem with Xena and Ares as a couple. She essentially wanted Xena happy (and if this was with Ares, so be it). That's not to say she wouldn't have tried to talk Xena out of the idea though. Two Star General Posts: 2369 04/20/04 1:30 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	like Stussygirl said, i think gabs was more of a hinderence. xena did base a lot of her decisions of what gabbs thought would be right. god ares before his sacrifice would def be a 'no no' mortal ares i can see gabs warming up to him and giiving xena the go ahead. God ares after his sac is a maybe because we never really got to see if his longer brush with the mortality gig had a more human effect on him. (Fanfic doesn't count. ) CHAKRAM is the only instance I can think of, unless you count AMPHIPOLIS UNDER SIEGE and that was really Xena and Gab's joint plan. I do think there's a perception that Gabby is always interrupting Xena and Ares -- wonder if TPTB played on that when they had "Fury Gab" come into Ares' tent just in time to rescue him from kissing "Fury Xena." I didn't know my comment would turn into a full discussion. I mostly meant my comment as a nod to the times when Gab interrupted Ares & Xena, or kept Xena from doing something that Ares wanted her to do. I pretty much agree with what the others said about Gabrielle's being a hindrance to their relationship, even if it was just a matter of keeping Xena's "dark side" from resurfacing. Of course, if one considers Gabrielle as having romantic feelings for Xena (even if Xena doesn't return those feelings), all those "interupptions" could take on a new twist. Not that I necessarily think that, but it's a possibility. Oh, I thought of another instance. How about in Old Ares Had a Farm, when it looks like Xena & Ares are about to kiss? The camera flashes to Gabrielle, and then we see Xena pat Ares' cheek. Would she have kissed him if Gabrielle hadn't been there?
