The article suggests that only now has Xena finally come out. But actors, writers, producers, directors, etc., who worked on the original show have been appealing to the lesbian community for years.
Personally, I would argue that at best Xena could be considered bisexual based many heterosexual relationships/encounters and some possible lesbian relationships/encounters that I can't confirm based on anything concrete.
I hope that they are not only using sexuality to get ratings. Sexuality was a part of XWP, but I think the show originally handled it in a more sophisticated way than they are given credit for.
