Other than the "final" convention in the United States, is anyone aware of any kind of plans to acknowledge and celebrate the 20th anniversary of the premier of Xena this year?
I've tried contacting various arms of NBC Universal to see if they're planning any kind of celebration (e.g. re-releasing the DVDs in widescreen, re-mastering and releasing Xena on Blu-Ray, producing any kind of merchandise, whether cheap Funko PoPs or the more expensive weapon replicas or statues) with no success.
It's clear from past comments made by Rob Tapert and Lucy Lawless that NBC Universal seem to have little to no interest in exploiting the "Xena" brand, but I had hoped that they would do something, however minimal, to acknowledge and commemorate the 20th anniversary.
I recall reading that 1/3 of the attendees at the most recent convention indicated that they were recent Xenites as a result of watching the series on streaming services like Netflix. Surely that would indicate to NBC Universal that some degree of interest in the brand not only continues due to the "original" fans, but is constantly growing thanks to the influx of new fans.
