First of all, how do artists suffer because someone uses their work? Do they lose money? If anything the copyright holders may BENEFIT from music videos that raise the visibility of their work. I personally have bought a CD because I liked the song in a music video I saw. I know other people who've done the same. I know people who've gotten into Xena and other shows after watching YT music videos and have bought DVDs and merchandise. So the "protecting the artist" rationale just does not hold water. Copyright law isn't some divine law that is set in stone, it's subject to a lot of interpretations. There are many legal scholars who believe that copyright law today is overly broad and inhibits creativity, particularly since it hasn't caught up with the new media. There are also many who believe that not-for-profit works should not be considered copyright violations at all.

Personally, if I wrote a song and someone made a video to it, I'd be flattered. The only way I'd be pissed off is if they did not credit me. But in fact every video credits the artists.

That's the "unofficial" part of my post. And now the official part.

Your post is a flame directed toward video artists, whom you accuse of "stealing." It's a slam against every person in this thread. You have previously attacked people who make artwork using digital media by telling them that what they do isn't "real art." I'm sorry, but the fact that you can draw does NOT give you the right to that condescending tone. (Do you know how much work it is to make a good music video?) Incidentally, strictly speaking under copyright law, your drawings of celebrities which are copied from photos are also a form of "stealing." Also, the advice in the video is not on how to steal, it's on how to legally dispute a YouTube blocking with a fair use claim.

Finally: It seems that the only time you even bother to post on the XOC anymore is to say something insulting to fans or about the fandom, and frankly, that attitude is getting pretty old. Do you want to participate on the board, or do you want to come here for the sole purpose of telling people off and lecturing them on what you consider to be their personal flaws? Because if it's the latter, I will very bluntly tell you that you are not welcome here.
