So, if there were no Argo, yeah, there could just be "a horse" that Xena uses. No name, no personality, just transportation. It would be sad without Argo. I believe that's known as ... Season 6. Xena never really had any kind of connection with the second Argo. (A real missed opportunity, because I think they did get off to a good start in Livia when there was that great moment of Xena riding Argo II for the first time.) And I think it was definitely a loss for the series -- the bond between Xena and Argo added something special to the show. Hmm... I was going to say there wasn't much Argo-text in Season 5 either, but I'd forgotten about Animal Attraction. And Punchlines (mini-Argo! ). I think the show could have gone on without Argo. (Sorry, Nutty! ) But how many of us would still be here talking about horsetext 7 years later? Umm ... well, I think we'd be here, just not talking about horsetext. But we would have missed out on a lot of special moments. Without Argo, well as LK said, I guess it would have been like season 6. Was Argo even name-checked in season 6 at all? Notice there was no sweet "goodbye Argo, run free" scene at the start of FIN (like there was in OAA and AOTST when Xena thought she was going to be dead for good, yet everything else in that episode indicated that Xena knew she was a goner from the moment the episode started and she suddenly wanted to retire). I did like the ineraction between Xena and Argo. I think it was "cute" to see some slight vulnerability in Xena in season 1, even if it was just with her horse. Heck, I think she had more affection for Argo than she did for Gabrielle for quite a while. And we would have missed out on Joxer's great scene in "Intimate Stranger" where he stands up to "Callisto" to save Argo. I don't see them using a different horse every week and if Xena did have the same horse, then I think they would have written Gabrielle as forming a bond with him/her and perhaps naming him/her and scenes of Gabrielle brushing the mane, etc. It seems like something Gabrielle would have done, but for the fact that Argo "belonged" to Xena from the very beginning and Gabrielle wasn't initially allowed much contact with Argo (although she could walk beside Argo if she chose). One of my favorite ines in You Are There is when Xena exlaims 'you could walk beside my horse!"as if that was such a gift showing that even in season 6 Argo was still very important to her. Oh, interesting point! I can't recall Argo II ever being mentioned by name. (Are we even sure her name was really Argo? ) However, there is one nice horsetexty moment in S6 -- in Heart of Darkness where Xena is braiding Argo's mane, and gives a "don't you ever touch my horse" look to the townswoman who tries to pet Argo. And Deirdre, interesting observation! I never thought the "You could walk beside my horse!" was any indication of Argo being extra-special, just of Xena "magnanimously" suggesting that Gab didn't have to walk behind. But you may have a point there! So yeah, I figure her name is Argo even though she's never mentioned that way in season 6. I have often wondered if it was a different horse in season 6 considering the slight difference in appearence (the triangle on the forehead, for one) but I think that Tilly was used as the horse throughout and there were a couple others that were used for difference stunts and traits that they were better at than the "star". Her different appearence for Argo II probably had to do with makeup or something like that. Argo was only in like 6 episodes in season 6 which really was a shame. She loved Argo, and that made her more then a killer, it meant she was capable of love. Also Argo was a beautiful horse and fit xena like a glove. Now now hosetexters, don't go twisting my words.LOL Plus seeing Xena on Argo just looked right and we loved her. The hero should have a trade mark, that was the chakram, and a chariot that she rides into battle. That was Argo. WooHoooo Argo rocks!!!!! *With you in my arms I am finally found...*
