And now the least favorite.

1. Too much SuperXena, especially in the later seasons. (Both in the sense of Xena being "always right" and of over-the-top physical feats.)

2. Too many deaths and resurrections. (Anything more than one death/resurrection per show is one too many.)

3. Alti. I liked her in the AITST flashbacks where she was a shamaness, but present-day (and future) Alti was an awful two-dimensional bore, and the idea of her as Xena's eternal nemesis through time was just depressing -- no matter what bad things Xena has done, she deserves better. The "making people relive past pain" trick was nifty but it should have been given to a more interesting character.

4. Too much sexploitation in S6 (and occasionally S5), including too much Xena: Warrior Vamp. Also, too much over-the-top violence in S6, particularly sexualized violence (in Who's Gurkhan and When Fates Collide). (I'm lumping these two into one.)

5. Soul Possession and Last of the Centaurs -- listing these two as one because they both have certain things in common: bad taste and character assassination.

6. The finale. Not necessarily the fact that Xena died but the lame, contrived reason for her staying dead, the foreign setting, the introduction of new characters we didn't know and didn't care about.

7. A tendency to mistreat (and sometimes butcher, as with Najara) interesting secondary characters and waste their potential. Eve and Virgil in Season 6 are the most prominent example.

8. The reincarnation/karma theme. To me it just didn't belong on the show, and none of Xena and Gabrielle's reincarnations (particularly Harry and Mattie) were very impressive.

9. "The Way" -- both the episode and the concept.

10. The "X & G, soulmates forever" theme in S6 sometimes felt a bit heavy-handed. I love Xena and Gab's relationship, but I didn't like the fact that they started to make it into some mystical, space-and-time transcending bond that was "meant to be" -- it's much more interesting to me if it exists on a purely human level.

Runners-up: the Ch'in and Amazon episodes of S5; the stupidity of the gods during the Twilight arc; the signs of creative fatigue during S6; too many winks and nods to the fandom (in The Play's the Thing, You Are There, Send in the Clones and Soul Possession).
