I hope everyone had a good 4th of July!

My mom, brother and I had a rather...interesting holiday, to say the least.

We went up to a state park not too far away, in the foothills near the mountains and did a little hiking (in really hot weather but it wasn't too bad). Then when we were leaving the park, the car broke down (a broken pipe for the brake fluid line or something and we almost had no breaks--never a good sign). Luckily, we were able to call my dad and he came to pick us up but we had to get the car towed to the dealership where they could service it tomorrow. We had planned to BBQ tonight and make ice cream (I love homemade ice cream) but alas, we just didn't get the chance because of the car situation. We'll make up for it tomorrow. The car problems took two or so more hours out of our day than we had planned.

Nonetheless, we were able to go to the fireworks show. At one point, I was wondering if we would make it. My dad drove my brother and I home so that we could go to the fireworks show while he drove back to where my mom was with the broken-down vehicle, waiting for the tow truck to show up. So, I didn't know if they would be able to get back in time for us to leave for the fireworks show at 8:30. I thought my brother and I would have to go alone. They return in time, though, and my mom came with us and we had a good time at the fireworks. And I had a chance to take some photos. (I had a test run last night at a fireworks show but they weren't the same because it was quite a distance away). I'm still getting the hang of taking photos at night like this--I have a lot of duds and need more practice but some turned out okay.

You mean not just firecrakers? Any kind of fireworks?

Where I live, fireworks are also illegal because of the danger to people and the dryness of the area, but only for individual users, not for public events like this. But yeah, we can't even use sparklers, which is such a shame because I remember having so much fun with those when I was little.
