I'm having a major attack of Xena/Borias this week, so I want folks to share the glee with me. What are your favorite moments? What do you love about this pairing?? I'll start it off, then maybe come back with more later (lest I hog all the good parts before y'all have a chance). --I love Borias in the AFIN flashback where Xena first meets Akemi. The way he just stands there so casually and watches her wipe out the whole room with her bare hands. Then he flaunts it in the guy's face. Borias is so proud of her. This is his lady, and "you just watch what my woman can do". Guh. He's so in his element and gets such a high off watching pure raw feral Xena. I never tire of watching that. --The way he can touch Xena in so many places under so many circumstances and she lets him get away with it in a way you wouldn't be able to imagine with anyone else. I love the bearskin scene in AITST. Just ... the way they take such obvious joy in each other's bodies, the way she leans into him ... it's like there's this little moment of peace and serenity before she goes back into her snarling mode. YES!! I refrained from stealing that scene in my post so someone else could have it. But you're exactly right, besides the obvious hot, there are those moments of such intimacy and almost tenderness. Xena really closes her eyes and leans in and enjoys the closeness. It's not a purely sexual connection or response, and I adore that SO much... GAH! It's so tragic...they had such potential...they both had such good in them, and they obviously felt that side in each other and I believe that's what held them together so long. Yes. That's a really good way to describe it. He sees the real Xena, both good and bad, and loves her anyway. Even knowing she'll reject that, he keeps trying. I totally agree with this point by LK. I adore how Borias loved to tease and tweak Xena with comments like "you couldn't teach a dog to bark". Unlike everyone else around EX at that time, he was never intimidated by her which is why I think their relationship worked (well in that dysfunctional way that it did). The look on Xena's face in AFIN (when they first encounter Akemi) after his comment "Xena loves no one" is just priceless. Also loved the moment when Borias laid dying and as Xena sees him and she holds Solan up a little so that Borias could possibly see him before dying. "I could sing for you" Keeper by Aurora Goddess. LOL (and he was SO gonna pay for that later... ) But, yes, exactly, he was never afraid of her, even when she regained her legs and became the stronger fighter. And she never let anyone else get away with remarks like that, either... I think that was part of the same draw with Gabrielle. Gabrielle was never afraid of Xena the way Xena expected she would be. I think it's on the Season 3 DVD set, on one of the Debt episodes. She says something like, "Borias was the one that got away" and that "he loved her when she was unloveable." Which I think sums it up really well. I'm always careful about which commentaries I listen to, especially on my favorite eps, for fear of having anything tainted for me. (Most of the time the actor commentaries are nothing but lovely, I don't mean anything against them, but I'm just occasionally squicked when I have a favorite moment to hear the actor then say, "Oh, I HATED that line..." ) But, yes, that's the beauty of X/B. The fact that he loved ALL of Xena. He loved watching her at her darkest, saw the beauty in what she was, and he treasured the buried good in her that was in him as well. He understood her on a level maybe no one else has. As much as Gabrielle came to accept the necessity of the Xena's darkside to the whole and Ares came to accept the necessity of the good side to her being the woman he loved, I don't think either of them really loved both sides equally in the way Borias did.
