Hmm, maybe she did think that Octavius would ride in and claim the bodies and it didn't occur to her that Ares would have any particular interest in her
corpse at least as long as he knew she'd be properly buried.
Maybe she underestimated his sentimental side.

Sentimental is right...esp with him burying Gabrielle alongside her.

I think she knew he was always close, if not always watching, whenever the other gods were hot on their heels. She could smell him, after all.
Both the sword and tears was obviously for show, but I've wondered on occasion if maybe, just maybe, Xena was hoping Ares would catch a clue and play along. Why? No idea. But why else would she need him there at all? The sword caught his attention, but for what use? So that he could run to the others and say they needn't worry anymore? Why did she need him? As if the fall itself wasn't bad enough (it did "kill" Gabrielle and Eve, supposedly) why did Xena have to survive that only to talk with Ares?? *adds ep to list of eps to watch soon* |

I mean if they had all died in the crash, there might have been suspiscion by the Gods at whether it was true or not. Yeah, i gotta say - from my expert opinion of course *coughcough* - it so blatently one of those weird xena-ares psychic link things. Either that, or Xena has totally pussywhipped Ares, and knows exactly how to play him. You know like "oooh, i'm gonna kill myself", and cos we all know Ares spends all day fawning over everything Xena does - he'll come popping out of nowhere to save his unrequited love. In his head he's like, "My xenakins - nooooooooooooooo!".

maybe she knew ares was going to bury her somewhere but thought either he would let gab on the beach (so that once she woke up she could find her body) or that
he wouldn't bury her and gab in an unknown place (so that octavius could save them).

i often wondered that myself. dont know how she knew, she just obviously did! i guess she always knew the power she had over Ares, just didnt dare admit it. i
think she took a gamble too to some extent

On a related note, it just occured to me that Ares didn't scoop up Eve's body along with Gab's when he zapped them to the ice cave.
We know the real baby was with Octavious, but did Ares? As to how Xena knew Ares would pop in, I have to go with the idea that since he'd *been* popping in on her, she figured he wouldn't just go away once it looked like things were coming to a head. But I will always be puzzled as to why she assumed he would leave them on the beach for the birds to gnaw on. Or hand them over to Joxer. I think she seriously underestimated his feelings for her at that point. |
