I had to go watch that scene again, just because. Two things struck me as I did. The first one was that they were all facing Gabrielle. I just found that kinda
funny.
Anyhow the second one was this line; "We need a formal coronation for our new queen." Said by the eager new sidekick girl (can't remember her name) as she plopped down next to Xena. Who exactly was she referring to with that one? Cause I mean Gabrielle isn't exactly a new queen, but it would rather have been a re-establishment or something like that. So makes me wonder if she was referring to Xena, especially seeing how she looked at her as she said it. I haven't watched the entire episode, so please feel free to clear my confusion as to what/who this refers to. I know it probably is supposed to be Gabrielle, but again the way they play it makes it seem more as if she refers to Xena. And iif interpreted as being Xena it is bloody damn obvious maintext. ![]() |

Oh cookies!!! I so luv your posts!
Well, I was always of the mind that they were teasing each other and were having this "inside joke" kind of conversation. Of course, the scene is so ambiguous that it's easy to be interpreted many ways, including an affirmation to the non-subbers that our ladies actually loved boy parts more. However, I point to the genderless pronoun Gabrielle comment as proof to otherwise. This started out a clearly hetero-focused conversation about man-lovin' and ended with Gabby's "person" comment.

Yeah the person thing to me affirms the fact that Gabrielle is talking about a female lover...
I love that scene.
It's all about me and what I KNOW:

Interesting observation, Jolly.
Remembers something about Eve becoming an amazon princess.... When is that? *puts 'watch xena' on my to-do list* |

You know...I've always loved this scene for this exact reason. There seems to be obvious undertones to their conversations, and they seem to be speaking to
each other in a different language to what they're saying to everyone else.
The people part of the statement is, as has been said, a genderless hint that lesbians tend to use, and adore the fact that whilst everyone else is clearly talking about men, Gabielle refer's to a person, not a man. That said I love the look she gives Xena afterwards with the slightly cocky grin, and Xena affirmed smile back. Sooo subtext!! NO GABRIELLE, NO XENA! PLA | Keeper of Gabrielle's Quill |
