BTW what does everyone think of Djaq's new look? That BGSB she's wearing looks strangely familiar . . .

I saw bits and pieces of it. I couldn't help but notice that one of the characters was wearing a jacket that resembled something out of the nineteenth century. Very strange . . . However, I did not notice anything resembling the BGSB. I'm almost interested in rewatching the episode just to notice it this time.

OK - saw Booby and the Beast, was it?
I actually enjoyed the guest character of this ally in the gambling german prince. He clearly had fun with the role but didn't chew up the scenery, which would have been really easy to fall into, I'd guess, with that kind of character. The actor seemed to know the Sheriff was of that sort, so went a little more, I don't know ... Frenchman's laissez faire boredom with it, which worked. I really enjoyed watching Marion discover he's going to be a friend to their cause, the two had great little scenes together. She's such a wonderful actress. The blind designer of the strong-room being some sort of default guru to the gang was a bit heavy handed, but mercifully it was a subplot. Additionally - the Indiana Jones raiding complete with booby traps (hee- there's boob again!). Which falls prey to cliche hell as did last week's "villian leaves room to foster an escape" deal. Oh well. I did think the reflection in the glass trick at the end was pretty clever. Isn't that along the lines of a theory on how Michelangelo and the like created such masterpieces as "God touching Adam" in The Sistine Chapel and such lifelike portraitures? (Theory started iirc because too many subjects seemed to be left-handed) Not much else to comment on, I suppose, other than the shipper "funk" poor Guy continues to be in. Love that despair and bitterness! I did relish his snarky growl to the german, directed at Marion: "Marion just needs a little coaxing. It's her way. She says No when she means Yes." -- -- with sexy, brooding, penetrating eyes throwing darts ... All of a sudden she gets a headache. Aww, hit a little too close to home, darling? I continue to loathe that black leather jacket Guy is in - the ridiculous piping on the arms - Gah. Much preferred his simple long wedding coat. So I thought I saw in the coming attractions for next week that we're getting a shirtless Guy with Marion's hand outreached? "Is there no chance for reconciliation?" - is that what she whispers to him?! Could get iiiiiiiinteresting.

Yeah, she said something like that. Vewwwy intewesting.
At least we got to see the normal leather blazer in this episode while Guy was at the gaming tables. He definitely needs some more variety in his wardrobe. The best part of the episode is when the count is rubbing Marian's temples when she has a "headache," and Guy is in the background, but in the center of the shot, and you can see him staring intently and then rolling his eyes. Hilarious! |

Yea! How much you wanna bet Guy goes off to find a guard to pummel for having his helmut on crooked or something lame like that -
just to blow off steam after seeing Marion get pawed? He had to avert his eyes when they kissed in the courtyard, it was so disturbing to him. Loved how the Sheriff took the opportunity to rub it in. I have to say - I definately feel they are using subtext with Sheriff/Guy to layer the incongruous manner of devotion and disgust the two have for each other. To be clear, I don't think they are interested in solidifying such subtextual elements into anything you can readily point to. But the Sheriff is going out of his way to try to foist his misogynist attitude onto Guy - and I think his motivation for doing that is .... complicated.

Wow, yea - that was delivered as promised, that "shipper" scene.
Marion getting an eyefull of him shirtless, being fitted for armor, by the fireplace of course ... I don't know who inhaled deeper, Marion or me. I also loved that she seemed to be honest in her flustered-lyness, and was about to say something significant to Guy, but her eye caught Robin spying at just that moment, so her guard went up and she went into "acting" mode. (And nice bod, Armitage! He's gotten more handsome, eh? Shorter hair, trim and tall, toned ... He gets better the less leather he wears. And I couldn't help but think of Ares and Xena holding finger tips at the end of Coming Home, when Marion reaches out and Guy grabs her fingers and they're gently holding hands ... it was wonderfully intense there - Elfrieda you are so right - Guy's eyes and posture, the way he moves his head in shame or regret and then back again with those peircing eyes in feeble hope, all as he's talking ... it's saying so much ... about how he's conflicted ... it's great to watch! Still some jealousy and mistrust between Robin and her, as the stable encounter shows - even after the wedding rescue and her home being burned down by Guy -- interesting. Now - part TWO of the shipper parade in this ep: Guy being soaking wet and having to thank Marion for his life. Niiiice. Men should be wet and shirtless much more often on TV, that's my feeling. Then, just like Ares ruining a moment rife with potential ("thought you'd be gulliable in your condition"), he sabotages it with talk of "saving Robin too/conspiring with an outlaw." Frankly, even better than those shipper scenes, I might love the exchange between Marion and the Sheriff more - when she is appealing to him to give her a pass to see Guy, and the Sheriff is giving her the total once-over, sneering and insulting her ... and her having to take it in silence - THAT was good drama. Not only because she has to swallow her pride for the sake of "the plan", but because her finest silks, her perfumed hair, ... she's got some duplicitous incentives ... she really does want to see Guy. Hmmm.... And I agree, Djaq is irritating. They are not giving the terrific supporting players enough to do - Much, Alan, Little John, Will. Well, Alan had more lines this time with his double-cross to Guy. He's getting comfortable in his newfound role - could get ugly!

Yeah, I think we'll be seeing more of Alan - but you're right, the other supporting characters don't get much by way of story. Much had that
episode last season where he became the Earl of Bonchurch, and there were some great scenes with him in the final episode of S1, but other than that, the Merry
Men (and Woman) are really not getting much material to work with, at least not as far as actual story-arcs.
Niiiice. Men should be wet and shirtless much more often on TV, that's my feeling. |

Thoughts on the new episode, anyone? The Guy/Marian scenes were brief, but there was a lot in them . . . more later!
