Hmm, this dynamic would definitely not have worked for me as it feels way too Melrose Place or Grey's Anatomy for my taste.

Or Buffy or Battlestar Galactica. And I'm not saying this would be all there is to the stories, the other stuff would still be there. The romance is just a subplot, really.

Episode contained conflicts were perfectly okay and enjoyable but another major fissure in their relationship like that would have very likely caused me to lose interest and abandon the show.

A lot of Subtext fans did lose interest in the show for Season 5. They see a distance between Gabrielle and Xena during this time. I definately see it too. It feels like a fissure is there to me, but isn't addressed storywise. Most people will interpret changes whether or not a reason is explicitly given.

And this is actually a shipping forum. We've got three of them. I really don't know how else to interpret the canon other than Xena was attracted to both Gabrielle and Ares, to both men and women. It's the only way it makes sense to me. I am merely putting a name to it, just as people do to the X/G ship and the X/A ship in their respective forums. If most fans were satisfied with what we got, I suspect we wouldn't have shipping forums...let alone three.

The "bitext as maintext" scenario is a fine one to explore in fanfic. In canon... I at least prefer what we got.

LK: Perhaps we need another forum for ambigutexters. LOL Nah...that's what the main forum is for, no? Is this gonna be a multi-ships vs non-ships debate? Really? Here? My view is fine for fanfic? Go say that in the Subtext Zone or Shipper talk and replace "Subtext as maintext" or "Shipper text as maintext" (though most assume the latter is anyway).

I avoided talking to Xena fans about Xena for a good while. I felt the arguing of ships was leading me away from my true internal view. The one that causes me to enjoy the series. My subjective view in which I see various ships in varying degrees in various episodes that I don't knock, criticize or pick at while I'm watching. It was only in talking to fans that I began to do so. And I'd really rather not do that. I have such a weakness for being wrangled into it, that I don't even read the main forum anymore. ('cept for threads that are accidentally placed in the Lounge )

My objective view is that Xena and Gabrielle were ambiguous...perhaps I should clarify, were ambiguous in regards to their relationship to each other AND in their other relationships. I've already conceded to that and I've made peace with it. And I would be okay with arguing that in the main forum as I've already done. But is there still not a forum to just express my subjective view? Is this gonna be the forum where I gotta argue my Bitext view because it doesn't fit the Shipper or Subtext view? 'Cause I can do that in the main forum if I wanted to. But I'm not doing it there nor do I think I should have to here.

EPTalk: Bisexual just means being attracted to members of either sex. It doesn't necessarily mean having sex or acting on it. I don't think bitext automatically implies consumation of any relationship, only that there was attraction going on.
