The shocked look on Xena's face when she realizes that she has been betrayed by Caesar. She never saw it coming. Not something we often see from Xena.

I'm late, and I think everyone took all mine.
 This is always one of my top 5 eps. M'Lila's song and the montage that accompanies it is the
highlight for me. That beautiful shot of Xena in all her colorful silks at the head of her ship. Gorgeous. And yes, the beautiful smile and "he's a
friend" that just breaks your heart. And I completely agree about the betrayal moment being one of the hardest
scenes to watch in the whole series. I know I've mentioned this before, but there are only two moments in the series I've been known to hide behind a
pillow for on repeat viewings. One is the moment that Dahak's beastly grandchild accidentally kills its mother then realizes what he's done, and the
other is watching Casesar betray Xena. It's excruciating.
Also, a note about M'Lila's song -- it's my understanding that it never appeared on the soundtracks for copyright reasons. The original song is by Mouth Music, and a version of it (not exactly the same as the one in the ep, but very similar) can be found on their album titled Mouth Music. I was addicted to that track for many months (still am, actually:)). Anyhow to add something new, I adore Gabrielle's total panic when she realizes how badly Xena's injured. This is still so early in their relationship, she's grown accustomed to kind of being the "child" and Xena always taking care of her in a crisis, she panics when she's suddenly shouldering all the responsibility. Going from "I can't take you there...it's too far away." to "Okay." I love the devotion even when she's so lost.
