I have just finished a rare fanfic-one that deals with hurt/comfort (that's common enough) but has one of the charcaters not recovering fully by the end of the fiction despite a relatively long passage of time passing. As a great devourer of fan fic, I do guiltily enjoy a good hurt/comfort story but find in the majority they recover very quickly or are miraculosly aided by a God/magic woman/potion to recover. Other than the ones where one of them dies, they are rarely left with a debilitating injury or a long recovery (there is one good story that I have forgotten the name of, set S6 sometime and Gabrielle gets a bad shoulder injury and tries to hide it from Xena but she realises and they settle down after realising Gabrielle is unable to fight anymore). I know the series was like that, rarely were injuries carried over (Joxer post King Con springs to mind as good continuity though). I am struggling to think of more than a handful where there is no incredible and complete recovery. What are your thoughts? Don't care? Like it to follow the show and have quick recoveries? Or like me like to see more than the odd one dealing with the harsh life on the road? And would any of our dear talented fan fic writers leave one of the main characters permanently disabled or injured? Thank you for your time.
