S5 is when I see Ares really seeing Gabrielle as something other than an annoying blond. He is the God of War after all, so fighting is what catches his eye and gets his blood pumping. For the most part I see them after FIN, because I still see each of them having Xena as the one they truly love and grief would be the definite catalyst.
