To all XOC members:
As you know, the rules of Xena Online Community require respect toward other posters and prohibit bigotry based on race, gender, ethnicity, national origin, sexual orientation, or religion.
Recently the concern has been raised that some threads in have featured disrespectful comments directed at religious people and religious beliefs.
Given the subject matter of X:WP, it's inevitable that some discussions will touch on the subject of religion (for instance, in discussing the Twilight arc, or characters such as Eve and Najara). Issues related to religion may also come up in the off-topic forum. In such discussions, it is very important to not demean other people's religious beliefs. Thus, one may freely and critically comment on Eve's conversion, but any accompanying comment disparaging the intelligence of people who are "born again," for instance, will be viewed as crossing the line. Remarks about Najara's religious fanaticism should not be phrased in such a way as to imply that Najara was evil because she was religious.
In discussions of real-life issues, the bigoted or hateful attitudes held by some religious people (be they Christian or Muslim) should not be blamed, explicitly or implicitly, on all members of that religion. Please remember that disparaging people based on their religion (or lack thereof), individually or collectively, is a form of bigotry.
Generally, current religious or religious/political controversies are best kept off this board since they invariably tend to be inflammatory and to generate ill feeling and discomfort among board members.
As always, the bottom line is: Please respect your fellow posters. When you are posting something on a potentially controversial issue, please pause for a moment to ask yourself if it could be hurtful to some board members. Religion, for most people, is an intensely personal issue. There are people of many different faiths on this board (and people of no faith). We want this board to be a hospitable environment for them all just as we want it to be a hospitable environment for people regardless of their race, gender, or sexual orientation.
Thank you for your consideration.
