You don't have to consider any backlash from a possibly homo-reluctant audience. Neither do you have to consider any type of limits/boundaries on what either actress would do. It is all up to you. How far would you take their relationship in visual terms? Would there be kissing? More affectionate touching? Would there even be sex scenes? How far do you wish they would have gone in terms of portraying X/G's relationship on the show? Everything popular is wrong.

There would also be the small kisses, "I love yous", etc. that are a part of the kind of relationship that they're in. Anything more than that wouldn't really fit in with the kind of show that it is. Which means no nudity or anything hard core..but we'd still get to see Xena and Gabrielle on horseback in the manner of Xena and Borias on horseback...

I prefer subtle. So waking up together, holding hands, "I love you", little kisses and being protective of one another would have been enough for me. I like to leave something to the imagination! Mainly because I love the ambiguity of the show so I'm unsure how much I would be willing to change. It gives such a different depth to the characters and they're relationship, and gives us the ability to speculate in any way we want. You take away that you take away a part of the show I adore. However, in the spirit of the question I will answer anyway I would not take it all the way in the sense of we get to see everything. I guess good morning kisses and cuddles (if our warrior is the cuddly kind of course ). Proper good byes and hellos as if they were a married couple. If as I said we don't get to see their more intimate moments, I would love to have giggles coming from Gabrielle as Xena whispers something in her ear, or as they pull each other into a bedroom at the taverns. One thing I would have to have is THEM SLEEPING IN ONE BED!! Not this seperate bed stuff. NO GABRIELLE, NO XENA! Perdicus, Ulysses, Marc Anthony, etc. And get one good passionate kiss at one point. Probably in FIN, before the sun sets. I think that too many sex scenes or too many graphical moments would completely change the show. And I kinda like it the way it is..

On the one hand, I think that in some ways it being such a sub-text thing made what they had actually more intimate. We got to see their relationship, rather than getting bogged down in the sex. Crap, I so suck at explaining. Now, if I could have my cake (the depth the sub-text brought) and eat it too (see more without falling into the cliche 'soap opera' drama so many shows seem descend into once characters are without a doubt/total visual confirmation having the sex)... Hands down, a kiss. A frakin' hot kiss along the lines of the X/A couch scene in AUS or the dream sequence in Eternal Bonds - none of this 'water transfer' excuse or 'friends kiss each other' stuff. Also really like the idea them pulling each other into a room and shown sleeping in one bed. Or even a under the sleeping furs type scene such as there was between Xena and Borias in AITST - it's obvious what they were doing, yet we didn't really see anything, and then the cuddling afterwards. userbar graphics by Aurora & TaladarkieJJ My graphics

BUT it could have completely changed the show , so continuing in the lines of the show, some full hot kisses like dahllaz said, seeing x&g sleeping in one bed and without their boots on, I would have liked to see increased some of the touchings, oh and those looks they have--like in kindred spirits with the amazons "....being kind and gentle?", Xena: " no" gab: "yes" and then the looks ! It would have had such a storyline to develop... I wouldn't have wanted an unequivocal full-blown relationship, even suggested, certainly not from the start. Not anything that would lower my anticipation level, of my hopes of a developing relationship. I mean the do they/don't they, will they/won't they was a teasing thread all the way through, basically keeping us hopeful throughout that there'd more demonstrations of love. What I'm trying to say is, if it hadn't been so tantalising we might have lost interest. So, as much as I would have appreciated physical demonstrations of their love in one sense, ultimately, the show would have lost a big part of its interest because of the certainty, subsequently leaving us nothing more to hope for.

Like holding hands, the occasional kiss with out the pretext of some thing else. I find it hard to say I would change everything because then it wouldn't be the show I love. But near 4-5th season I really didn't appreciate all these men around Xena, and her kind of cheating on Gabby. (It really was cheating!!) But I would have liked all of this nearer the end when it was damn obvious they were a couple. I don't think it could have been any more plain as day in 'Many happy returns' that the two were more then friends. Some thing a little more intimate around that time would have been nice. In 'Fin' they could have been a little more main with out the uses of a 'transfer' label on the kiss. I loved the show so I really don't know how it would look with certain changes. Maybe they would have lost that intimacy and raw quality to the scenes that Xena and Gabby did share if these things were changed. I did love the tension that the ambiguity created. (I'm Torn!) The Bringer of Storms ......I move the skies...

I'm all about maintext, I love the scenes where it's just so obvious that they are a couple. But part of what makes those maintexty scenes so great is that they're like a reward for all the time we get our feet tickled with the subtext. They're so special because they're the tip of the iceberg while underneath the surface there's all the subtext that is ambigous and allows us to go crazy with our speculations and fantasies. So, no I don't think I would want to change a lot. The only thing that makes me pretty mad if I give it too much thought is something that's been mentioned a few times already in this thread: It wouldn't have hurt to have one real, honest kiss between the two of them. There are many kisses throughout the show, so why didn't they have one? Perhaps after the Sappho poem in MHR, because Gabrielle would be so overwhelmed by her emotions. That would've been nice.
