It wasn't hard for me to put the pieces together as to why she has been gone.. I was just hoping to hell I was wrong... She came into the clinic today and was talking to a few of us... She wouldn't go into detail, but she told us enough to comfirm our thoughts.. Last weekend, she was attacked... With me being in charge of all the labs that come through, I put 2+2 together real fast.. After seeing that types of labs that were coming through.. She had her first Dr.'s appointment was Monday... After her appointment her mother came and took her home... She left her truck at the office... The next day her Husband came to get the truck and there was a letter on the windshield.. He opened it up and it was utterly, just, uggg... words can not even discribe.. The letter was talking about very perverse things... Giving nasty websites... Talking about how he had been watching her, and all the ladies around her...How he has talked with her, and every other lady in the clinic, and how good she tasted... The few of us that know about this are just the ones that close... See our staff is 85% women, and the few men that we do have working with us are off at 5... Leaving the woman to close the clinic... Most of the time, there is always one female alone in that office for at least an hour.. .And in the winter time.. It's pitch black, and there is no lighting in the parking lot... Well the women... Me, another nurse, and a receptionest are all packing now... You do not need a conceled hand gun permit in AK, so we all have a gun in our purse, and bear spray on our keys... But why should it be like that... Why should we have to go to the extremes of feeling the need to carry a gun, because they can not schedule one man to work the late shift with us, or I don't know.. .Maybe put in some freaking lights.... Sorry about the rant.. I have been sick to my stomach all day over this...and I am beyond frustrated that nothing is going to change at the clinic ~In a world where you can be anything, be yourself~

Im against weapons, I think If everyone will have a weapon then there will be some serious trouble. Where I live youre not allowed to have a weapon unless you are police. This will prevent people from using it for other perposes than defending themselves. But that does not mean there is no way you can defend yourselves. I mean the whole woman closing alone thats not good at all. Im not saying you need a man to close ( we close as women a lot cause we just dont have that many men ) but perhaps 2 women, thats already better. We've all had a self defence cours. Cause despite of what you may think Amsterdam is a pretty dangerous city. Lights int he parking space, camera's etc. they all help to prevent those weirdo's coming there. I think you should seriously have a talk with the staff there, perhaps there is something that you can do. Or else the 'local government' they can pay for that aswell since its a security issue. I'm a beginning weapons collector, and am certainly not above saying use it if you have it or need it. I would think it would be better though to just schedule two people at a time at least, put in more lights, maybe some cameras, and self defense courses. Because no violence isn't the answer but after someone has been attacked all bets are off, and it doesn't really matter about your principles after someone is harmed, it weighs no less that you did the right thing by not using the gun when you have to think about that you could have saved someone. Having said that I don't like guns, and don't think they are a fair fight, but then again neither is someone hiding in the dark to attack someone, so I think of it as evening the odds, when someone in management won't. I'm in agreement about not carrying the weapon though, for a couple of reasons. It gives whomever, if they get close enough a chance to take the weapon away and use it on you, or your co-workers. As pyscho as this guy seems likes, it would give him a reason to kill, hurt or escolate (spelling) the violent behavior he's already showing. Real sad situation when you feel like that's the only way to protect yourself from harm. I know for years I used to carry a knife on me at all times for the same reason. I do suggest self defense classes, just quick basic stuff, not the drawn out stuff. Krav Maga is one of the best classes for stuff like this. But anything that's repeatative works, and K.I.S.S (keep it simple stupid) type of movements. Always have a cellphone handy, etc ... I'm real sorry to hear about your friend, I've gone thru that before myself, and it takes alot away from you when it happens. I'll keep all around you in my thoughts. Stay safe. hugs wlfy

Is anything actually being done to find out who is did this? I'm a firm believer in our right to defend ourselves. I sleep with a knife next to my bed and I openly take weapons with me when I go somewhere that I know is dangerous. I have never been told not to, and even if I was I would still do it. Because if I have a choice between my life or a mugger or rapists. Im going to choose mine. And if someone breaks into my house I'd definitly choose my familes lives over theirs. I think you should have the right to defend yourself no matter the cost. Anyway, my rant aside. I think you should nag until you get lights and more security. Its a sad fact that they will usually wait before someone actually gets hurt before they do something about it. I think you just have to be totally vigilant and ready to kick some weirdo butt. x ETA: I'm not endorsing carrying weapons. Its very bad children don't do it! Unless you are in danger! I can't imagine how threatened you all must feel. I'm not going to tell you not to carry a weapon--I've seen studies on the subject both ways, and I think that there's a lot of biased work on both sides of the issue. In the end, in my mind, it comes down to a personal choice and personal assessment of the risks and situation involved. I assume you're trained in how to use it? Here is a website I found a couple years ago with a lot of information on self-defense. Maybe something here will be useful to you. Therefore they don't need to put lights up yet.. (the sun is up till 3am right now) But that didn't stop this from happening.. They are being so tight lipped about this that the Dr's didn't even know that it happened.. I had to tell the one that I work with last night about it... Myself and the otehr girl that is carying, grew up in the same community in Oregon.. We are not gun Nieve, and we both have at lot of DT Courses under our belets ( i have 2 years as a part of my criminal justice degreee..) I have shown a few of the women some simple moves, in which you don't have to be very strong, and I have told them how important it is to scan the parking lot before then leave the building.. To have their keys out in their hand and have and their fingers on the call button if they need to make call in a hurry... Right now it seems that people are more worried about politics then anything... We will see what happens ~In a world where you can be anything, be yourself~

It wouldn't work to stop producing guns because I know in my close family two people who could just make the guns. It is true that the statistics show that more people who have guns fire them and victims get them taken away and used on them. But if they didn't have a gun in the first place and the criminal has one they would shoot. A lot of criminals don't think about shooting a victim they just do it, now most people who are victimized don't do the same they hesitate and that is what gives the criminal the oppurtunity to take the gun. I hope they catch they guy and as horrible as it that he left that note, that it helps tighten the noose around his sorry neck. If you and the others who're packing know how to use a gun, and are willing to use it, ('cause I'm guessing those that aren't willing are usually the ones who have them taken away by their attacker. the whole attitude thing - body language says a lot and if yours is saying "take one more step and you're gonna get holes in your body" then it's suddenly a lot scarier prospect to continue the attack.) and aren't breaking any laws, then I'm glad you're able to take extra steps to protect yourselves. Part of my feelings may simply be that I am from the U.S. and as a whole our country takes our right to bear arms very seriously. Added to that being from the West (also from Oregon) where guns played a key role in people being able to settle the country; it's just plain part of our identity. Not just for protection from humans, but from wild animals (still a problem in rural areas), to protect our stock from wild animals and just to put food on the table. We also take our hunting pretty serious out in the country too. I've been around guns all my life and can't remember ever not knowing they were to be taken very seriously, that they were not toys and once I was old enough to have one of my own (12 is when you can get a license to hunt in Oregon. or it was anyway), had to take a gun safety course. Education is the key and the lack of is probably were most problems occur. I firmly believe banning isn't the solution - that just leaves the bad guys as the only ones armed. And I have a right to protect myself. As an aside, they actually do fight fire with fire - wild fires anyway. They use fire to help make a fire line so that when the actual wild fire gets to that spot, there isn't any fuel for it to burn and therefore it can be contained a bit. My heart goes out to your coworker brabs. You and the others in the office should do whatever you feel is necessary to protect yourselves since it seems no one else is looking out for you. About 8 years ago, the group I work in was located in a secluded office park building and I was never so shook up as the day we came in and found "Wanted for Rape" police sketch flyers posted all over the building for a rape that had occurred right in our parking lot a few nights before. Fortunately the building management was very responsive and had the security guard walk us to our cars anytime we had to work late. Too bad you're not seeing the same kind of response. Be safe!!! When you draw your gun the attacker is in shock and could do weird thinks like uhm.. Shoot you?! When you have a gun you become a target and a threat to your attacker. I think choosing between self defense course and a gun is choosing xwp style between sword and staff. But im a sober Dutchman who have a no policy on guns which is works perfect here.
